I’d assume she’s getting something (peerage) for stepping up to replace Johnson.
I think she has a chance at the leadership but realistically she should be running a mile like everyone else. Has a similar feeling to Theresa May being stuck with Brexit after David Cameron resigned
Hah, she has a good media team at least to be getting headlines this early
lol, who?
Never heard of this person; I guess that makes them the ideal candidate, as they likely have the least tarnished reputation in the publics eye and that’s really the best the Tories can hope for.
[e] I’m guessing the downvotes this comment is now receiving are from her PR team, lol.
A dark and sadistic part of me is really hoping for Braverman. She would be fucking awful but the lols would be incredible.
> She caused a major split within the Conservative party after a controversial appearance on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show in which **she incorrectly suggested Britain would not have a veto on Turkey joining the EU.**
> Asked if Britain had a veto on the issue, Mordaunt had said: “No it doesn’t.” She then argued: “I do not think that the EU is going to keep Turkey out. I think it is going to join. I think the migrant crisis is pushing it more that way.”
> Penny Mordaunt has been criticised by charities and MPs for suggesting the government’s international development spending should become more reliant on private sector investment and philanthropy.
> But now, history is repeating itself, with the news that Penny Mordaunt, the international development secretary, plans to follow the recent lead of Donald Trump and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu by once again withdrawing the UK from Unesco.
> Penny Mordaunt was dramatically confronted on stage by a protester who accused her of failing to give women a voice at a conference on sex abuse in the aid sector.
> She is a supporter of homeopathy, having signed an early day motion in support of its continued funding on the National Health Service (NB: Homeopathy is a load of horse-shit and should not receive funding)
> Almost always voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits
> Almost always voted for reducing housing benefit for social tenants deemed to have excess bedrooms (which Labour describe as the “bedroom tax”)
> Consistently voted against raising welfare benefits at least in line with prices
> Penny Mordaunt voted in favour of repealing the Human Rights Act 1998;
> Almost always voted against increasing the tax rate applied to income over £150,000
> Almost always voted for increasing the rate of VAT
> Almost always voted for more restrictive regulation of trade union activity
> Almost always voted against greater regulation of gambling
> Consistently voted for mass surveillance of people’s communications and activities
> Consistently voted for requiring the mass retention of information about communications
> Generally voted against measures to prevent climate change
> Almost always voted against slowing the rise in rail fares
So she’s your bog-standard Tory, just (as of yet) with more integrity than BoJo.
Wasn’t she the villain in the sequel to *The Three Musketeers* ?
Penny Mordaunt accepted a large donation to the party from her uncle Terence Mordaunt, owner of Bristol Port, and chair of the Global Warming Policy Foundation, the UK’s leading climate change denial lobbying group. He claimed that carbon dioxide pollution is actually “a benefit to the planet”. The Bristol port company have made multiple donations to the Tory party and also donated £100k to Vote Leave in the hope that Bristol port would be granted Free Port status, creating a tax free zone.
Mordaunt and her cadre are worse than Boris. They are not just interested in power for power’s sake, they actively want to destroy the planet for profit.
My prediction (which will be wrong):
– Braverman has no impact on anything and barely features in the contest
– Zahawi runs, too tainted by Boris
– Gove runs, gets through to later stages but loses because that’s his role in life
– Hunt runs, does okay but really no one likes him
– Truss runs and makes final few.
– Wallace runs but is boring and shows he isn’t quite ready for that level of government
– Mordaunt runs and makes final two because she’s competent and has that hard edge Tory voters like in a woman
– Javid runs but his head is too round
– Sunak runs and wins because tories don’t care about rich wives, but is a big issue at next election, which they win anyway because Keir is essentially a tie rag.
Edited because sock was too offensive. Apologies.
A mordant is a substance that fixes the previous step (usually a dye) to stop it being washed out. A Mordaunt is a politician who fixes the previous policies to stop them being reversed.
She does have a chance to be fair. She appeals to grass roots Tories.
