We rode our bikes 2,600 kilometers around Ireland and had a ball. Highlight was getting invited for hot whiskey and a place to sleep by a sheep farmer on a rainy night

  1. We’re on a rambling ‘around the world’ bike tour, we’re about 20,000 kilometers and 14 months in. We flew into Dublin and rode through the Wicklow Mountains before connecting with the Wild Atlantic Way in Kinsale. We followed the WAW all the way to Derry, passing through Kenmare, Galway, Clifden, Sligo, Ballina, Donegal and a ton more I can’t think of at the moment.

Irish weather and the narrow roads were both challenging at times but drivers were really courteous and the coast was stunning. Just wanted to say thanks for having us and sorry for mispronouncing every Irish place name while we were there.

  2. When I was a backpacker about 20 years ago, a friendly accordion player in his 80s on Inishmore invited me in for a hot whiskey, which I spilled down my front when he had a grab at me and licked my face trying to kiss me. I guess it’s a funny story now… learned a lesson there.

  3. Very nice! My brother and a friend cycled the South Coast, as I recall, from around Cork or Galway to Dublin. It’s a lovely stretch. My brother’s friend got the taste for touring, and cycled absurd distances for fun.

  4. Amazing! fair play to you cycling the whole way ☺️

Myself and my partner are doing a similar route along the west coast in two weeks but in a Volkswagen camper, actually cannot wait! If we get even semi decent weather I’ll be chuffed.

  5. Fabulous. Well done.
I’ve done Derry to Galway via the WAW… Really must get around to cycling the southern half.

    What was your favourite county?

Looks like you gave the R335 road (Louisberg > Leenaun) a miss which is a shame. Nicest road I’ve cycled on in Ireland. Now you’ll have an excuse to come back.

  6. Maybe I missed this. How many km a day. What times you cycle from to? Did you allow for visiting interesting places or just keep going?

  7. That’s amazing.
Can I ask why you didn’t stick along the coast from Ballina to Sligo Town? Some lovely beaches and coast through Enniscrone, Easkey and Aughris. And some nice wild camping spots too.

  8. I hope you got to see the Gap of Dunloe and the Black Valley. Two of my favorite places from our visit a few years back. That little island becomes a part of you that I hope will stay for the rest of my life!

  9. Fucking good job big shoots,I’m so annoyed seeing tourist only end up in Dublin or the east coast. The west coast is just the best place in the world and I’m happy more people are finding out about it rather the yet another Europeans capital city
