NUIG researchers launch website to show what local authorities spend money on

  1. Awesome website! I had no idea Limerick’s budget is that large. It’s almost as big as DCC’s and like 3-4 times the size of any other authority. You have to wonder if it really makes sense for a council with a billion euro budget should be organised exactly the same as every other local authority. Surely such a big budget should come with more powers, and a proper full time legislature, rather than the part time, effectively advisory council that currently exists.

  2. Calling this research is a bit of a stretch. One only has to Google their council budget and these figures pop up, this whole project would take an average adult about half an hour.

The budgets are adopted by the councillors in your area who should be sending you a breakdown of this once a year, if not better make contact as they’re paid to provide this information. All of these figure can be found on your councils website where these “researchers” simply copied and pasted the information from.

  3. The way it’s displayed is very confusing. The totals for the categories are in millions of Euro, but the amounts inside are (presumably) the Euro per person, based on the budget per person listed at the top of the page.

  4. Hard to believe Dublin City Council have an annual budget of 1.1 billion, you couldnt tell it waking the streets, everything is filthy
