Why have new houses been shrinking since 1980?

  1. because people are happy to buy them apparently. Now why are they happy to buy them is a lot more complex, a significant percentage seem to want a new build by preference and are prepared to take a lot of compromises to get it.

  2. Population growth. England is denser than Japan and a little less dense than Netherlands and our homes are all about the same size. So about the size they should be.
