Like its worth an attempt but how do you stop lower ranked men just dominating the open category ?
Could just open all the categories remove all the rules and let chaos reign. Would make it more interesting at least.
In a very similar vein, British Rowing has had Open and Women’s categories for quite a few years now. I suspect they will adjust their rules to require post-puberty trans women to enter Open.
Forgive my ignorance and poor reading comprehension, but is this just renaming ‘men’ to ‘open’?
And then saying trans women can’t compete in the women’s category?
Odd one for me but it’s the tidiest solution. Will there be a best trans man time, best trans woman time, etc? Seems easy to do in a triathlon. Makes international contests more tricky if it’s just going to lead to men winning everything.
Women’s sports have issues around equal sponsorship and interest compared to men’s sport as it is. This just makes men’s sports better. Open = inclusive. It’ll only have a positive influence for sponsors.
Funding for women’s sport will nosedive if this becomes the normal. But if that’s the hill some want to die on then fair enough.
All because of typical media scaremongering.
An Open category to me should be for those who dope so we can see full potential. But at least they’re trying to enable trans athletes to compete somehow.
Sport is really very silly
I was always curious about the point here that surely it mostly depends *when* someone transitions?
Surely in an absolute best case scenario we pick up someone is trans before they go through puberty, block puberty until they are old enough to make decisions on further treatment (or to roll back and continue with puberty/development as their born sex) etc.
Surely in this ideal best case (which admittedly is practically 0% of current trans people due to the state of trans healthcare) the trans person *hasn’t actually gone through male puberty* so all of these concerns about how male puberty reshapes the body to confer unfair sports advantages isn’t actually true?
Just find it a bit odd people seem to care about this a hell of a lot more than I do but haven’t even started to express these kinds of playing with the thoughts.
Yeah whatever.
How to say trans women aren’t women without outright saying it.
This island is great.
Good they need to keep these cheats out of sports.

I think that’s a great route forward.
