Now that the UK left the EU, i suggest we don’t help them at all on this. They don’t want to stay in France? That’s great, we don’t want them to stay in France either, let them go to the UK. If anyone says it’s not safe, we’ll provide safe crossing.
My vote in the next election will go to the candidate who suggests this.
FTFY The Turkey of UK
No chance.
Nope. Next question.
Ok but we offer them proper boats and navigation training.
what the French government needs to be is honest.
rather than say “yeah will help stop them… give us some money” and do absolutely fuck all but then insist they are “trying” is say
“We’re going to do fuck all about it, you fix it”, and force the UK government to act, be that changing laws, immediately relocating them to the other side of the planet or loading them up on a boat and dropping them back in the beleric sea just off the coast of France with there dinghy.
Hmm… i thought this is why UK left, so they don’t have to use the same ruleset, wanting a real hard border they can control.. so.. control it then.
All the bickering between the British and the French misses the point, as are critiques of both from the pro immigration crowd. France isn’t flooding the U.K. with migrants Lukashenko style to punish them for Brexit or any of that nonsense or being overly aggressive towards Britain — it’s just that there are simply too many migrants there that want to go to the U.K that they can stop some but not all. They can still 300 a day and have another 200 slip through their defenders. Insofar as they deserve criticism, it’s that they’ve allowed illegal immigrants to travel to their country through lax border policies, although there’s been more pushback in the Italian border.
The U.K. at the same time is convulsed – much like France and most European countries – with a large asylum backlog and an inability to deport illegal immigrants so in effect when they make it to the U.K. they make it there forever bar very select cases.
All the people talking about the U.K. processing asylum seekers in France (as Boris suggested) or create safe, legal ways to migrate also miss the point. There are plenty of legal immigrants in both U.K. and France. They are countries with some of the highest levels of foreigners and immigrants in the West bar North America and Aus/NZ. And creating processing centres in Northern France may draw more migrants there.
The fundamental point is that there are a lot of people who want to live in the U.K. that have no other way of moving there other than claiming asylum or illegally immigrating — even after all the legal and safe routes. But the U.K. can’t take in everyone and neither can it rely on France to stop everyone. There needs to be an honest reckoning on borders and immigration and good communication. Also ensuring that deportation actually goes through – not to France but their countries of origin. (This issue applies to most Western European countries too.)
No thanks these people are not french , no reason to take them back. They are only here to move to UK
