79% of people in favour of mandatory mask-wearing in public settings

  1. I’d love to know the 7% of people who believe masks shouldn’t be mandatory in healthcare settings but they should be in some other setting

  2. Very interesting, considering there’s nowhere near 79% of people actually wear them out and about.

  3. I can’t make sense of the survey. How can 79% be in favour of masks in any public setting but only 51% in favour of masks in airports? Are airports not a public setting?

  4. Utter nonsense. More like 7.9%. If you want to wear a mask, good for you, don’t force it on the rest of us. It’s important to breathe in that beautiful air.

  5. Interesting spin on this survey. I’d love to see some reporting on how government hasn’t increased hospital or ICU capacity in any meaningful way despite the pandemic, but for some reason that’s not a big deal.

  6. The more we talk about mask mandates and engage with social media conditioning the more likely it is they’ll be brought back. If you want to wear one, wear one, otherwise don’t be entertaining

*I’m aware of the irony of talking about masks in order to decry them so don’t bother pointing that out

  7. “Almost two-thirds of people surveyed (57%) wanted to see masks made mandatory on airplanes.”

57% being called “almost two-thirds” is a new one.

  8. The great thing about masks is these people can fire ahead and wear one right now if they want. There’s absolutely nothing stopping them.

Oh no wait, they want to force other people to wear them. That’s right, I forgot.

  9. 79% of people surveyed on behalf of the journal using some dodgy question formulation.

Only 72% want them mandatory in healthcare settings… in which they already are.

40% apparently want them mandatory in shops and yet I’d rarely see a mask going round my local shops. If you think everyone should stop eating meat, then you can start by being a vegetarian yourself.

  10. That’s a shocking way to phrase the results. Seems intentionally written to confuse.

  11. It’s sad when you see headlines like this. You really know the summer is coming to an end in the next couple of months. Articles like this are based on fake manipulated polls and serve to prime the public into thinking that there will be even more lockdowns, restrictions, mandates, et cetera in the future.

Also, it serves to give the people something meaningless to argue over and takes focused attention and public on after arguably more important issues like housing, the health system, diminishing public services, political and civil service incompetence….. The list goes on.

Rather, the useful idiots and nudged into endless circular debates over mask mandates and what not at the expense of everything else. It’s been going on for years now, everyone has their camp and their positions likely will not be changed.
