Hi all,
We are a couple traveling from Hong Kong in Kefalonia. Since our arrival, we have come across a really kind supermarket owner next to our accommodation in Poros. He gives us drinks and candies for free whenever we visit his store to get groceries. We would like to get him a gift and write him a thank you note before we leave on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, we didn’t bring anything from outside of the country so we need some help with gift ideas. (He is pretty old, around 55+?)
We are also planning to take a photo with him tomorrow, print it out and write a message in Greek. (His English isn’t that great) If you can proofread this google translated message for us we would really appreciate it.
Please let us know how this sounds to you. Thank you so much!!
Update : We gave our gifts! He was very shocked, it seemed like he couldn’t believe people would get gifts for him. He played it cool tho, telling us to practice our Greek before returning to Poros, shaking our hands and patting our backs with a big dad smile. We told him that we’re leaving today and he immediately got up and got us candies for our ride to the airport and for our flight. We felt super warm and sentimental, I spent 5 mins having happy tears. [Please drop by this store whenever you visit Poros.](https://imgur.com/a/VymmaOE) He made our trip very memorable.

A gift card for a massage!
I think he will appreciate it very much
really nice from you op 🙂
Hello!
This made me smile. I have spent almost all the summers of my childhood at Poros. I can even imagine the supermarket you are referring to (there are not that many there :D).
Regarding the gift, i argue that something personal would have more value rather buying something from a gift store. As a personal example, in one trip I had gifted a book (despite being written in Greek) to the host.
By the way there is a small village called Tzannata (Τζαννάτα) near Poros, on the road towards Argostoli. If you pass by make a few minutes stop. There is a spring with drinkable water (we always used to stop there when coming back from Poros beach). You cannot miss it, you will notice the plane trees.

Wait, what is the life expectancy in Hong Kong?
If he likes to smoke or play komboloi. You could buy him a zippo lighter or a nice komboloi if you can find it. Both are durable and last a long time.
A nice bottle of wine
