This must be were Russian sporters used to live when they were still competing for Russia.
Perhaps they can sell the whole area to a Hollywood studio.
It has street view coverage, most buildings are in a better shape than this, but still look kinda abandoned, and yet 70 000 people live there
Step 1: secure the keys
Basically that’s the average Russian city lol
Hundreds of Estonians were also deported there during the Soviet occupation. It was truly one of the most desolated places to be.
“50.000 people used to live here, now it’s a gh…. wait what do you mean they still live there??”
Russia can just show their average city and say “look what Ukraine did”
This city was build because coal deposits are there. It used to be a ‘miner’ city that just grew.
There is no point of making this city a ‘Las Vegas’ since it is shit geographically, environmentally and also very cold (it is fucking North of Russia).
My girlfriend’s father was born there and grew up. It used to be good because the ones that worked in the mine made alot of money. I believe it was around 200 thousand people living there at its peak. But now everyone is moving away from there to Moscow etc.
Looks pretty good for a town outside of StP/Moscow. They even have roofs!
The town itself is pretty depressing, but the Soviet urban planning doesn’t help. These big distances between huge buildings makes it feel inhuman almost, also it doesn’t help during winds and rains
Wow, even third world countries look less depressing than this.
Step 1: Secure the keys
Step 2: Ascend from darkness
Step 3: Rain fire
Step 4: Unleash the horde
Step 5: Skewer the winged beast
Step 6: Wield a fist of iron
Step 7: Raise Hell
Step 8: Freedom

Vorkuta is the fourth largest city north of the Arctic Circle and the easternmost town in Europe. It is also the coldest city in all of Europe, boasting a record cold temperature of −52 °C (−61 °F).
After the fall of the Soviet Union, the coal mines that Vorkuta was famous for were privatized and many people began moving further south. Many of the mines had been abandoned and by September 2020, the estimated population was only about 50,000 (down from a peak of 200,000).

Interesting footage from Vorkuta:

Vorkuta is a former gulag. A guglag doesn’t look nice. People remained there because it was too far away from literally everywhere.
