Moved to a new apartment, no gas in stove, but there’s this valve attached to it. Any idea how to open it?

  1. I tried to rotate it left/right but it won’t move. I’m afraid that if I try harder it might break. Pushing it up and down also doesn’t do anything.

Edit: I don’t mean that I want to disassemble the tubes and risk the gas coming out.. I was just wondering if this is some kind of faucet that needs to be “turned on” to get gas in the stove.

  2. Do not do it yourself. Get an Installateur to do it for you! If it smells like gas, call the Gasnotruf or the fire brigade immediately.

  3. talk to your landlord! Definitely don’t just try to “open” a gas valve by yourself!( the main valve is usually not in your flat and it is yellow!)

  4. Red Field means its closed, due false connection or broken tube. Better let it checked why it is. Call your landlord, that he orders a Installateur und Heizungsbauer to check on that.
This type of Valve is allways closed if something is not right. No tube removal like in Hollywood and your flat goes up in a fireball.

  5. It’s some kind of quick connect with double end shut off. If you disconnect it, body and stem should (if not broken) be closed and no gas comes out.
There should be a box nearby where the pipe goes into and where the gas-meter is attached. Normally, there is always a shutoff valve there, too, that has to be opened in order to get agas flow to the stove.
