  1. >They reveal that Home Office officials described how an individual being held in immigration detention “was fine with going there [Rwanda]” days after he had threatened to commit suicide amid anxiety he would never see his children again.

    >After the Home Office said the Afghan detainee was OK with being sent 4,500 miles to east Africa, he attempted to commit suicide twice; once by drinking shampoo and once by hanging himself.

If you support this policy, there is something deeply wrong with you.

  2. Good people of Witham, this is your MP. Pol Pot Patel is who you are voting for. Please remember that at the next election.

  3. If a previously very depressed and suicidal person suddenly becomes “fine” – it’s more than likely because they have resolved to actually go through with committing suicide and are no longer struggling with trying to stop themselves. They will have actual concrete plans for how they’re going imminently to do it and they’ll either be preparing them or have them prepared and ready.

Be very worried if someone you care about who is suicidal and depressed suddenly becomes fine.

  4. The idea that asyum seekers that come here, stating they are fleeing for their lufe, will be safe is false. If people are after you, all they have to is come here, claim asylum, and they are free to get to the other asylum seeker anytime they like.. They most likely could just get a visit visa and come legitimately too.. Our lax immigration and asylum laws make this a very unsafe country for anyone who is really fleeing for their life. Its a paradix

  5. What’s the difference between Rwanda and the United Kingdom and why would someone not want to be in Rwanda but would what want to be in the United Kingdom?

  6. Let me guess, his English wasn’t great so he didn’t really understand until someone explained it properly to him.

And now the home office tries to claim he was fine with it.

  7. Ok so firstly: the guy was apparently so anxious he may never see his children again, that he decided to try to kill himself… Guaranteeing he would never see them again?
    That makes absolutely 0 sense.

Secondly, his children and wife are in Germany… Why has he decided to travel to the UK from an already safe country?

I get that people feel very compassionate about asylum seekers but people seem to just throw all common sense out the window if they’re reading this and thinking, yep, absolutely right, he should be allowed to go anywhere in the world and threaten to kill himself if a country dares to deport him.

  8. They aren’t officials. They are socially-employed halfwits who wouldn’t be employable outside their department, let alone the civil service, and who are not qualified to assess any aspect of another person’s health or wellbeing.

  9. What is so wrong with Rwanda ? Honestly quite racist to assume that Rwanda is not a thriving African nation. The idea that being sent to an African country is cruel is so arrogant and frankly racist

  10. People I’ve spoken to for this deep dive often say this: they’re torn between staying and trying to bring about change, or leaving for the sake of their own sanity (and morals), knowing they can’t.
