Monkeypox: ‘Deep concern’ as London reports 71% of cases

  1. >“If we have learned anything from the Covid-19 pandemic…”

    I’m going to stop you there, Sadiq. That’s a very big if.

    And the government barely cared when Covid was killing thousands of elderly people, they’re not going to care about a disease that they and their useful idiots online can spin as being confined to gay men.

  2. Hate to jump on the Khan hate wagon but did he really say this or is this poor reporting;

    “The government must rapidly ensure that there’s a coordinated and resourced approach to tackle the threat faced by monkeypox now.”

    Communication is absolutely vital during the early stages of a situation like this and you can’t afford to give the usual suspects easy targets to take potshots at and minimise the risk.

  3. Speaking as someone in the at risk group, living in London, I’m very concerned about this. One of my friends got vaccinated yesterday. Apparently the medics at the sexual health centre he attended said they only expected to get about 1K doses of vaccine atm, but they estimated they had 35K eligible people on their books. I’ve not been able to find any sources that say the Tories have upped their order from the initial 20K doses of vaccine.

    The thing that really concerns me is the NHS doesn’t know how many sexual partners I have or my sexual habits. This isn’t like the Covid vaccine where the NHS knows your date of birth and can get people vaccinated by age order. I don’t mind waiting my turn, but I am worried I’m not even in the queue.

    The Tories don’t seem to be taking this seriously at all and I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out that they didn’t care because it was simply a “gay disease”. Until October when the universities go back and suddenly it spreads like wildfire through young people and we’ll have missed our chance to nip this in the bud early enough.
