On this day 569 years ago, a French army decisively defeated its English counterpart at the Battle of Castillon. Won by the innovative use of field artillery, it was followed by the collapse of English power in continental Europe, effectively ending the Hundred Years’ War.

France to blame for British colonialism in Africa, Asia and the Americas.

  2. The “Bataille de Castillon” is quite popular in France as every year for decades now there’s a beautiful open air live show on the actual site (at Castillon) with a (fake) medieval village full of costumed actors, music, a narrator voice, then the actual battle with some mounted knights and soldiers, the charge of the bretons (frenchs) knights that save the day…

Very nice show and the last time i saw it (pre covid) there were tons of tourists included some nice english people, good fun ambiance.
