so… unlike the gouvernment they should help the people? Okay.
If only someone had seen the importance of having internet to every home and saw it as a necessity no one can afford to not have.
I’d be happy if they just didn’t jack up your bill arbitrarily every April, even mid contract. I signed up to pay a certain amount, not whatever you fuckers feel like charging me.
Reminds me. Need to call Virgin Media and do the “I’m leaving” fandango. Like *hell* am I paying £60pcm for 200/20 without TV.
Can’t wait for fibre to arrive here so there is some alternative (can’t use OpenReach, they never upgraded this side of the street).
Not a moral obligation…an actual obligation!
So they have an obligation but utilities, supermarkets, petrol dispenseries and the actual fucking UK Govt don’t?
No they don’t.
Yeah, the £25pm I pay for 100mb fibre broadband is definitely the problem here

A lot of providers are controlled by Openreach wholesale pricing though and Virgin doesn’t cover the whole country. Cornwall for example is solely Openreach infrastructure
Cheap FTTC connections are mostly useless these days especially with the cabs at capacity, cheaper options can also have usage caps
But they won’t! Source 25 years of working in ICT and dealing with BT
No they don’t. Home broadband is a luxury
Don’t all ISPs now have to have a social tariff for those on low incomes?
Mine does and it’s £15 for 50 down 5 up (£3 more if you want a phone too) and it’s fibre to router – you may have to search for it but I’m pretty sure they do now!
Great in theory, but why not have a social tariff for Gas, electricity etc. The poorest in this country are also paying the most for their gas/ electricity due to being on pre pay meters. If can’t get a phone contract then pre pay again, so paying more.
I understand that internet is a necessity these days, but reducing the cost of that doesn’t make much of a dent in their bills as much as helping with the other utilities.
Plus as others have said, the cost of the infrastructure to provide these services is huge.
Utter crap. They don’t need need a mobile unless they are job seeking so you while someone is on job seekers they could be provided subsidized phone service otherwise a landline will suffice they don’t need super fast broadband to go to a website.
You have a basic income you should live a basic life. What the government should be doing is subsidizing a basic service for low income households at the same time providing resources to teach basic home economics.
I am not saying things are not tight right now but with the economy the way it is second jobs are possible to increase your income and there are so many resources available on how to reduce your outgoings.
There are sections of the population where help is needed but that is for Government policy to facilitate not guilt tripping a private company.
Probably should be free for everyone under a publicly owned system. But the last guy that said that was mauled by the press, and lost in a landslide cos people wanted to “get Brexit done”.
Congrats Britain.
There should be a cheap and basic internet for those who qualify.
Except they really don’t. Morals and business rarely have anything to do with each other.
They SHOULD. But there is no law requiring them to and no negative consequences of not.
Hello Virgin? Yes, I’d like cheaper internet services please. The “over a barrel pricing” because you’re the only provider of superfast speeds outside London is really annoying.
Also, better customer service would be good, too. Thanks!
Will you do it? No? I didn’t think so.
I actually think the internet is cheap unless you are going for ultra fast fibre, which isn’t a necessity. You can get a good broadband package for £22 a month with 35mb speeds and unlimited downloads.

What about energy providers?
No they don’t. They’re private businesses
Sounds good. Who makes up the difference?
That’ll do it then
Internet is a public necessity at this stage. It’s so disheartening there isn’t a public option for something literally everyone needs in 2022.
If you’re in the North West, keep an eye out on Youfibre

KCOM actually elected not to increase prices this year ([Hull Daily Mail article](https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/kcom-cancels-2022-price-hikes-6603481))
How about landlords
