Trying the “Myrkl” anti hangover Drug. I assume it’s snake oil but I’m a man of science so . . .

  1. So this tiny pill eradicates hangovers? The best part of hangovers are the 4 soggy jambons in the morning, the buffalo wings mid afternoon and the massive Chinese in the evening.

Why would you deny yourself food pleasure on hangover day?

  2. Pint of water with Dioralyte going to bed.

Get up, have your first piss of the day and down another pint of water with a Dioralyte.

Then take two Solpadeine. Add two more hours of kip.

Boom. You should be relatively hungover free by 10am.

This has consecutively worked for me for around 6 to 7 years.

  3. I will call bullshit, here’s my breakdown of the ingredients and the research

    1. Vitamin B12 – is a non vegan deficient in this water soluble vitamin?

    2. Lcysteine – The supplement and drug used to treat paracetamol overdose. It increases the synthesis of glutathione which helps prevent damage from the harmful metabolites of paracetamol. Non specified dose – whenever there is a proprietary dose = we used a subclinical dose and are hiding behind fancy words. It’s a cheap supplement and most people take 600-1200mg. Plausible it helps the liver through glutathione but then again why is this here at a non specific dose. I would be surprised if there is more than 100-200mg here

    3. Another proprietary amount of probiotics

Study: 24 person sample size, the company funded it therefore there is inherit bias. The results weren’t anything spectacular. Was there any control group? Nope.

    I’m calling bs

Buy l cysteine separately and you will see similar results.

  4. [RTE wrote a great article](https://www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2022/0708/1309132-hangover-pre-drinking-pill-myrkl/) on this:

    >The evidence for Myrkl is based on a single published research study. 24 healthy young white adults were asked to take either two Myrkl pills or dummy pills (placebo) each day for seven days. They were then given a small amount of alcohol (between 50 and 90ml of spirits) based on their weight. Their blood alcohol level was tested for the next two hours.
    >
    >The researchers found that within the first 60 minutes, the amount of alcohol in the blood was 70% lower in those who received Myrkl compared with the dummy pill.
    >
    >Although this study was well designed, including randomly allocating people to the Myrkl or dummy pill groups, several problems make the results weaker. First, the researchers only reported results from 14 of the 24 people because ten had lower blood alcohol levels at the start.
    >
    >Second, results varied between different people, which reduces the accuracy of the study. And third, the researchers tested seven days of treatment before a single drink of alcohol, but the company recommend only two pills one to 12 hours before drinking any amount.
    >
    >The study also leaves many unanswered questions. Does the pill work in people who are not young, healthy and white? Does it work in people with gut or liver disease? Are there differences in the effect of the pill between men and women? What happens when food and alcohol are taken together? Do medications change the action of the pills?

There are a few statistical errors here. As it’s a probiotic, there is less regulatory oversight on these things and companies typically aren’t required to test their products before they reach the shelves for public consumption. The actual study can be found [here](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/11786388221108919), with n=24 participants (13 male, 11 female), 25.4 ± 7.7 years of age, BMI: 23.6 ± 2.5 kg/m².

Let us know how you fare with this!

  5. Just take 2 multivitamins and a pint of water before you go to sleep.

The reason for a hangover is dehydration and mineral/Vitamin deficiency so the remedy is obvious.

  6. Electrolytes (as someone already mentioned: Dioralyte) and tryptophan (eggs/chicken) is what I was told helps a hangover. I did try those charcoal tablets years ago too

  7. Love the “scientifically tested” on the front.

Not: “scientifically proven to do X”. But sure at least it’s been *tested*!

  8. Best hangover cure is the Russian method. Drink exactly what you had the night before but just a little bit more.

  9. One of the worst fucking hangovers of my life was had after I took some anti hangover tablets the night before, life lines I think they were called? I didnt got particularly mad but I was in an absolute fucking heap the next day

  10. An all day wank marathon and a chicken supper with peas and curry washed down with two cans of ice cold club orange is the only thing that really works.

  11. I drank a bottle and a half and I don’t feel too hungover but I am still pretty tired. Not fresh but not in pain. I do think it helped a little but it’s no miracle cure.

It did not seem to have any effect on sobriety levels. I didn’t feel like it slowed or weakened the effects of the alcohol.

An inconclusive and un surprising result.
