Penny Mordaunt repeatedly advocated use of homeopathy on NHS

  1. Oh great so now a struggling budget is going to be streched even thinner to fit this bs? Next she’s be sure if she sends that random Prince she got an email from that £5000……..

  2. This keeps getting the fuck better and better…where do they find these fucking nutcases, and how does the voting public think they’re representative of their views?

Or, scary thought, they *are* representative of the voting public’s view, which means that the average voter is dumb as a fucking doornail.

  3. As long as she’s treated exclusively with homeopathic remedies when she’s ill that’s fine. What’s that, Penny? You don’t want your life-saving medication watered down to one part in a trillion? You want the full dose? But why, Penny? It works just as well, because tHe WaTeR rEmEmBeRs.

  4. Oh, that’s a shame. I did think when Jeremy Hunt was standing, ‘at least he has no chance at all, so he’s not going to be in a position to get homeopathy into the NHS again’. Apparently there’s more than one of them.

  5. Ironically Homeopathy has proved good value for money in the past. A lot of patients visit their doctor when there’s nothing medically wrong with them, particularly the eldery.

Studies have shown that Homeopathy improves these people’s feeling of well being, probably because they get to have a nice long chat with a sympathetic person about all their aches & pains.

Iirc the BBC did a documentary about this a while back, it was saving the NHS a lot of money but is morally dubious at best.

Dr Ernst grew up in an environment of homeopathic medicine and even trained in it.

But he was also a scientist and decided to apply proper scientific method to his life’s training and work to that point.

He found and ~~now agrees~~ has long agreed that it’s bunk.

  7. Homeopathy is the plot to assassins creed but about chemistry instead of genetics. That’s to say in the same way we don’t have our memories of the events of our ancestors lives inside of us. Water does not have memories of the molecules it has come in to contact with.

And even if there were some hidden property that science has not yet discovered – and we can literally predict the probability distributions of fundamental sub atomic particles with extreme precision so the chance that there actually is such a hidden property is negligible to the point of mysticism. Then there is no explanation as to why it would be medicinal.

Which correlates closely with the complete absence of medicinal value of homeopathy. It’s why it’s called “Alternative Medicine”. It’s an alternative. To medicine. As in it is not medicine.

The best you can say for homeopathy is that it comes from an era of pre-science where diluting things and ingesting them was in some ways a valid form of medicine. You can build up resilience to various kinds of poisons by taking non-lethal amounts of them. Homeopathy in this sense is a pseudo-science to explain why in the advent of modern chemistry people should still buy such anti-poisons even though we now know that in the search for a dilution that was non-lethal they ended up with pure water.

So. What is Penny Mordaunt doing? If anybody with any knowledge on the subject can dismiss it in four short paragraphs? Well there are two likely answers and perhaps even a spectrum of possibilities between them. Option one. That she has a massive ego and thinks it appropriate to discuss things that she has no understanding. Option two. She’s demonstrating her absolute lack of shame. She will say completely untrue and misleading things in exchange for power.

Penny Mordaunt has just demonstrated herself unfit to lead. But that is no loss. This is a virtue for the conservative party.

  8. do you know what they call alternative medicine that works???, Medicine, if its still alternative then is doesnt work

  9. I actually dont mind homeopathy being used, if we acknowledge its a placebo effect. Studies show that placebos work even when you are told they are a placebo, it could provide a very cheap way of treating a lot of peoples low level illnesses.

  10. I disagree completely with her on this, but in the grand scheme of things this is small-fry in terms of complaints.

Honestly anyone thinking this excludes her from being PM is going to be disappointed.

  11. Great, yet another fucking lunatic.

Is it a condition of entry to that party that you have to be a snake-oil selling, corrupt, lying imbecile?

To an individual, they’re not just crooked, they’re complete and utter idiots.

  12. Homeopathy is garbage but given the myriad serious issues facing this country, this is something I really wouldn’t worry about.

  13. As much as she is a knob, medical professionals are recognising that these things can actually work as a placebo and lead to better clinical outcomes. It doesn’t scientifically work, but if the patient believes that it can actually bolster their recovery. It’s not actually that insane as long as its along side actual medical treatment

  14. Fuck off. I was part of a team that took thousands of hours of work to stop NHS funding going to the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine For quacks to give out sugar pills.

They’ve since shifted to to proving a more holistic service with actual proven treatments rather than sugar pills with a 1/100000000000th molecule of something stupid.
