Forests Now Cover 2% of Iceland

  1. That number may not seem like much, but since 1990, the surface area covered by forest or shrubs in Iceland has increased more than six times over – from 7,000 hectares to 45,000.

In 20 years, the number is expected to be 2.6%.

  2. OP, I think there’s an effort to reforest Scotland underway. Climate change a couple of thousand years ago (made it wetter) coupled with the arrival of humans led to massive deforestation that has been maintained to support raising sheep for wool. Apparently Scotland used to be heavily wooded and some folks are trying to support the regrow that of forests.
