At this stage I don’t care what they do with the space, just get on with it and put some sort of amenity in it.
Wasn’t it being used as a swimming pool/dumping ground/toilet by the local scumbags anyway?
Why would you use an outdoor pool in the freezing when there are loads of cosy warm indoor pools.
Seriously do people just give up trying?
“ The lido would be a “seasonal” multi-use area, according to architect Andrew Griffin, with diving and children’s facilities set up during the summer. In the winter, the pools would be covered and replaced with an ice rink, concert venue and/or a Christmas market.
The area would also include a “rescue village”, an endearingly-named training facility for state bodies such as the fire brigade. Architects would design the mock village to stimulate urban flooding to train rescue teams. “
Sounds pretty cool, and I’d think it’s good to see resources spent on some amentities locals can enjoy too.
Or how about an urban forest?
Great idea, simple and something that a wide proportion of people would enjoy.
However how the heck does it cost €25 million to build what is effectively a large swimming pool?
A Lido is a much better idea than a whitewater rafting facility, which never made sense to me given the space. It’s would have been very small compared to similar facilities elsewhere, and accessing it for those bringing a kayak with them was going to be difficult. You had to park down in ringsend and paddle up the Liffey to get to the facility.
Lidos have been successful elsewhere, and it’s an amenity that can be used by a lot more people.
A lido is a fantastic idea, but not sure why they need to make it non-usable at the winter – there’s enough ice skates and Christmas markets!
I live locally, I think the rafting facility would’ve been class. Very original and unique idea, and it was refreshing to see DCC thinking outside of the box. But of course an outrage group made up of people who don’t live within 25 miles of the area kicked up enough of a stink.
I wish SalesForce would fuck off and build their own recreational and team bonding facilities themselves. CUNTS! When you think to yourself why the government can’t build houses, remind yourself, it’s because they’re too busy trying to use your money to build facilities for a foreign multi-national that has a revenue of 24 billion dollars.
How much lido would have been built to what was wasted on the white water rafting plan?
Great something we can only use 3 days a year
Makes much more sense. I really want it to be a public amenity of some kind, even if it’s just filled with dirt and covered in grass.
A lido is such a simple and sensible use of public funds yet I still feel that the powers-at-be will somehow manage to fuck it up.
Ah cop the fuck on
Finally Dublin gets its own swimming pool. Big day for the capital. World, take note! London, New York, Paris, and now Dublin.
What about the 48 weeks of the year where it’s pissing down freezing
To be filled with used needles…
Lads, the rescue village is just white water rafting repackaged!
Why the fuck would we dedicate 60% of the space in a Quay side, city centre Dock, to a special training facility for fire fighters. Obviously build that shit someplace else!
Like yeah this would be great but this is ireland, look at the “public pool” in clontarf. They couldn’t open to the public because they couldn’t get insurance. This would never open it’ll be built but never open.
It could easily be heated with all the waste heat from the incinerator in Ringsend.
Not a joke btw, they really should be doing this!
Ah sure the homeless can go swimming too! Great idea dublin city Council!
