Russia’s Gazprom Reports Record Profits as Gas Prices Soar

  1. This once again shows the precarious nature and unreliability of fossil fuels, especially gas from Russia, which is being used as a political pressure tool.

Decarbonization is the solution. The technologies exist and are mature. Europe has to move on from a century old technology and transition to electric based sources which can be powered by renewables and storage.

Solar is abundant and free, wind power same. Just the infrastructure is needed, but once installed, insulates European countries from the pressures of the gas market.

And Europe doesn’t need to replace 100% of gas demand, just about 20 to 40%. This will ensure an oversupply and price stability.

And for Russia, this is actually counterproductive. Russia has now made it very plain that they will use this commodity to blackmail their customers. Gas will be used as a geopolitical pressure point. So smart customers will do their best to mitigate their exposure. This hurts Russia in the long-term.

Russia NEEDS the gas revenues more than Europe needs the gas. They are being incredibly shortsighted.

  2. We need another Nordstrom so Russia can finally get some more funding for those T14 armatas they never finished

Apparently the /s is needed sigh

  3. While EU was waiting for lower gas prices that were never going to happen China and rest of Asia bought all the Russian (and American) gas right under their noses

So now they throw tantrums about high prices and tell themselves how Russia needs their gas market more than they need Russian gas as temperature outside inevitably keeps going down

    It’s pretty hilarious to watch
