All I care about is that the Tories aren’t in government at the earliest possible opportunity.
No we literally, objectively can’t you fat headed toffbag
I don’t really believe him but I understand why that’s his position.
Urgh. FFS. Is he being paid to keep Labour out of government?
He’s saying this because, in most spaces, people in the public don’t want to hear about Brexit anymore – they just want their lives to improve. If he says he’s going to rejoin the EU, he *will not* win the next election. He has to say shit like this so that people vote for him on the basis of “He’ll make this bloody mess work”.
I don’t think we’ll see serious rejoin representation till I’m in my mid-thirties. I’m presently 18, so about 17 years. Two decades or thereabouts seems reasonable for when rejoining the EU is an actual major vote *winner*.
Listen, we’ve messed up our relationship with the EU to such a degree that even if we wanted to, we’re not in a good position to rejoin for a good while yet. The only thing we can do is get the delusional Brexit lot out of government and actually deal with Brexit realistically.
He knows Brexit is stupid. We know he knows Brexit is stupid. But the rules of Brexit mean he’s not allowed to acknowledge Brexit is slowly ruining the UK, otherwise Brexiters will get upset. Such is life post-Brexit.
He should lead the tory party in the next GE
It it won’t be, even if theoretically possible. Which it isn’t.
It is a sensible thing for him to say. Most people who want to be in the EU will vote for him or the Lib Dems anyway.
Probably he says that to avoid Tories monetizing Brexit sentiment. Once in the government he can do whatever he wants. Since when politicians word is binding…
Absolute Cretin.
Isn’t this just ammunition for the SNP?
They can use the exact same reasoning about Scotland and the UK. How would potential future prime minister Starmer refute that?
Wrong. Proof already given up to now. Wait for the more daily consequences of brexit to quick in. Brexit NOT done except on papers. Denial by these hard brexiters hurt. Bring them to court. Traitors to the interests of the people of UK.
When are we going to get an opposition to the tories again??!! Its been at least seven years now since they’ve had free reign.
If I say anything I’m told off for harassment.
UK could be, but won’t be. I was an EU sceptic, but voted remain because the shit shower who wanted it were just lying their arses off and playing off xenophobia and I knew it’d be a mismanaged farce leaving us high and dry and poorer than the rest of europe. I also believe it’s better to try and change a fundamentally good idea (the EU) than just thow our toys out the pram and leave.
No. He said we are out so have to make the best of it.
Maybe,if we didn’t have shit government after shit government .
If he gets in we’re screwed. He was cherry picked as a quick fix puppet because the powers that be didn’t want an anti-royal in charge of labour.
Labour is dead
I am convinced the press Barons have so much shit on him that he is literally a patsy for the current mob in No10.
Fuck sake Starmer, say it like it is, Brexit is costing the UK £100billion a year, a year!
The sooner we can repair the damage of 12 years of Tory chaos, the better.. or else, if you are not prepared to say this, you can fuck off and left Andy Burnham say it instead.
Well I don’t agree. I get why Kier has to say that but at the same time the problems with the economy will never ever be fixed if we can’t talk about the issue and rectify them. You can’t put trade barriers up with your block of neighbours and expect to still prosper.
Kier, along with most of the other parties like to talk about honesty. Someone needs to be Frank with the public and tell them we are always going to be poorer with the new trade barriers we’ve decided to erect. We will not prosper…. But that was the publics decision.
I understand that’s not a vote winner but then they need to stop talking about honesty.
Honestly as someone who is staunchly pro-EU I’d rather take the Labour government as a shift to the left than become too worried about this. Like the others have said my first priority is getting the shitshow Tory Party out of government. 12 years of failures, cuts that have decimated our society, and constant changes of prime minister. We need a fresh start
In theory.
In practice it’s too late to make a statement like this, the time to make trade deals came and went and we *are* worse off, even with a better deal we would not make back what we lost in years, its concerning that Starmer doesn’t seem to understand that.
He learned from the mistakes of 2019. Campaigning with Corbyn to rejoin the EU destroyed their chances and gave Johnson a 80 seat majority.
Going back into the EU will take years, but at what cost. We rejoin and the EU hold all the chips, have to take on the Euro and lose the Pound. Full integration with the Schengen zone. No veto power. We had it better before we left, but we left.
Starmer needs to get on board those who wanted Brexit but only voted Tory because Labour dropped the ball. That’s how we push out the Tory party.
This stupid piece of shit was doing everything to lead the remain charge while Corbyn was around, even going as far as to overturn the referendum without a vote.
What country is he living in if he thinks the uk is better off as it sure don’t look like it.
Sure. I mean. Look at Switzerland and Norway.
You know. The countries that actually engage with Europe and keep free movement.
I can understand why he’s saying this, and I’d probably make the same play in his shoes. It also means I’m going to be a Lib Dem or Green voter for the foreseeable (safe Tory seat under our dear ERG deputy speaker).
I want to hear commentators pushing people on how Brexit is going to be a success, we have this shitty sound bite of “get on with making Brexit a success”. What does this mean? How is it done?
He makes it very hard to like him. ‘I’m not a member of the conservative party’ is his only real strong asset.
Fairly certain he’s working with them now.
Why else would he be working this hard to make himself less appealing to the electorate than that wretched hive of villainy?
There’s no difference between the tories and labour, they all grew up together.
Wish politicians courted the sensible liberal vote as much as the racist vote.
Politicians everywhere fall over themselves to win the votes of racists and it still isn’t enough for ’em.
I want to leave this country now. All cunts. Everywhere.
The English electorate are demonstrably mental, can’t really blame him for sugaring the pill.
So who do I vote for to get the UK back into the EU?
I realise he is trying to move on but seriously..
> if the government slashes post-Brexit red tape and diverges from Brussels’ regulations.
We’ve heard enough of this from the government. I’ll place my bet now that it won’t happen. How many years have we had and all they seem to have come up with is imperial measurements! Labour are not going to suddenly find these mysterious regulations that are holding us back ( and won’t cause more problems with trade by getting rid of). Anymore than by being different they will suddenly solve the basically unsolvable issue of Ireland’s trade border.
Quick question, Kier:
When?
I mean how long are we supposed to wait until brexit can be called a success?
We can vote for you to get together current bunch of useless cunts out, but Starmer needs to convince people he can do better.
Labour? Sounding like a Tory? What’s this world coming to?
Here are some realities:
1. Leave won the referendum
2. One of the main arguments for leave was having control of borders and trade deals
3. You can’t do those things inside the single market
With these ideas in mind, Starmer and indeed anyone who isn’t burying their head in the sand knows that the only way you’re going to win an election is by providing a manifesto of hope and positivity about what the UK can achieve outside of the EU with effective government. There is no reason Labour can’t be that government if they put talented people in the right positions to move the country forward.
It was his hardline remain brexit policy that in large part lost us 2019, now he’s in charge he changes his tune.
Snake.
That guy is a complete joke, changes his policies like a woman changes her shoes
Seriously how many times does this guy have to go back on stuff he’s said previously before people understand he’s a con man.
He’s literally the personification of everything that is wrong with british politics today.
