Anti-cannabis group met privately with drugs minister to discuss possible RSA-style ad campaign

  1. Fantastic to see a tiny cabal of control freaks in the medical community attempt to introduce a sort of “Green scare” if you will to impose their will on the nation and use public money to do so a là the RSA. Just fucking *awesome!*

These are the very type of people who were given free reign during the pandemic: totally risk adverse and conservative to the nth degree, but the only difference here is that during Covid we were dealing with the unknown where as with this situation we’re dealing with a known substance.

Cannabis is not harmless, but it is certainly less harmful than alcohol and tobacco. Then again, these are the type of people who would outlaw those substances also if they only had the power to do so and would legislate for a bedtime and regimented diet for the populous if they were allowed to.

These people would eliminate personal freedoms in the name of health: they’d have you living the most boring, risk adverse life imaginable if they could all while waving their fingers at you like you’re a bold child that needs to be minded by your betters.

I actually can’t think of more controlling people with open contempt for the public – we saw it throughout the pandemic. Remember when they thought the public would to be too slow to work out how to use antigen tests? That people would be too stupid to read and understand basic instructions? Only people with a medical degree could *possibly* understand the complex nature of antigen tests….

Like, do you really want to listen to these people beyond a direct medical question? Control freak weirdos.

  2. The maddening thing is that even if we accept all their mental health concerns at face value, they’re essentially advocating for the continuation of a system where you text some lad and get Probably Stardawg OG and spice jellies delivered to you on a scooter.

There’s so many people in this country who’d love to go into a well run dispensary and not necessarily buy the pot version of poitin.

  3. Johnny was just a normal kid. Then one day he smoked some REEFER. Now Johnny turns tricks down by the docks to feed his habit.

  4. Incredible that Feighan will listen to these saddos rather than take the lived experience of thousands of drug users seriously.

EDIT: I must apologise on behalf of my constituency for this clown

  5. KNOW YOUR DOPE FIEND. YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT. You will not be able to see his eyes because of the Tea-Shades, but his knuckles will be white from inner tension and his pants will be crusted with semen from constantly jacking off when he can’t find a rape victim. He will stagger and babble when questioned. He will not respect your badge. The Dope Fiend fears nothing. He will attack, for no reason, with every weapon at his command-including yours. BEWARE. Any officer apprehending a suspected marijuana addict should use all necessary force immediately. One stitch in time (on him) will usually save nine on you. Good luck

  6. For fuck sake. I’ve only just finished therapy for all them RSA ads they had us watch practically in the middle of the Den growing up. Now they want to go it *again*? Cunts

  7. If it’s anything like the RSA ads, some lads’ll be smoking cannabis, only for a car to come tumbling in from behind them, decapitating them in the wreck while a toddler watches on with a dead-inside expression.

  8. They put Frank “Elbows” Feighan (whose long term issue that concerns him most is joining the commonwealth…) in charge of it because he is a reactionary in the old blowhard style and would steer things as much as possible to the “right” result for them.
If it gets legalised or decriminalised past Feighan than there was no stopping it and therefore less of a risk to FG/FF.
Of course this is cowardly and sly politics but what’s new?
Depressingly SF seem to have little interest in evidence based policy in the issue either maybe coz they campaigned on an anti dealer stance in poorer areas in the 80s and on.

  9. What’s this going to look like, someone on the couch eating a bag of Doritos stoned with the title “Lazy Cunt”, or someone giving themselves a hug because they’re high on E titled “sad bastard”, so on and so forth?

  10. Can’t believe we’re still stuck with people like this.

The world is finally opening up to cannabis being legal and these old dinosaurs are still doing the mental health routine, then off to the pub at the end of the day to slam a few pints and as we are all well aware alcohol has never once been responsible for health issues or violence, nope, never.

But let’s keep weed illegal, sure we don’t need all that huge revenue it will no doubt bring in that could fund all the mental health care he wants, it’s obviously much better off to keep it illegal, keep it stigmatised and keep the people who need help from speaking up and receiving it cos of some folks who for some stupid reason still think a weed smoker is some demon possessed hellion.

  11. What is the fucking hate for cannabis in this country.

Like I don’t smoke it myself but weed seems to get the most negative attention for what ever reason.

  12. If you want to see more from these I recommend checking out the Joint committee on Justice held last week looking at the issue of drug decriminalization. Where the CRA and other stakeholders spoke on the issue. They were the odd one out on drug policy.

  13. There comes a point where you have to prioritise the needs of society as a whole vs. the individual.

I enjoy a pint as much as the next man, but I think few could disagree alcohol is a much more destructive force in society as a whole. Turns people egotistical and violent. Alcoholics often don’t just destroy themselves, but their family and friends. If alcohol were invented today it would be a Class A substance.

I don’t think weed is harmless. I personally don’t know anyone who got psychosis from it, but I know plenty of chronic stoners who are happy doing nothing with their lives, all they do is sit around and smoke.

The difference is the stoners are harming no one but themselves really. When you compare what a chronic smoker does to themselves vs what the war on drugs has done to society as a whole, it becomes obvious the latter is much more destructive.

  14. So an Anti-advocacy group who do not disclose who is backing or funding them met privately with the government to ensure that all advocacy groups were forced to publicly declare all of their sources of funding and associations…..hmm. Let me digest that one for a second.

  15. I’m not much of a drinker. Even though it’s easy to access. The same with weed. It’s already easy for me to get if I want it, but I just don’t. It’s not my thing.

Weed, cigarettes and alcohol are all drugs that can be abused, but one is illegal for some reason. At least weed can help cancer patients and others feel slightly better.

  16. Last year there was a prominent anti-cannabis doctor on the national radio claiming that kids had died from ingesting cannabis jellies.

Liars like that are shaping legislation and laws which damage society. Regardless if you’re pro or anti decriminalisation, this off the record, one-sided manipulation of laws without any input from the public needs to be stamped out.

  17. Backwards Ireland back at it again

The pub culture is dying let’s do all we can do to save our beloved alcohol.

But god forbid if you like to smoke weed, you are nothing but scum…..but by all means go to your local pub and spend 50 euro on over priced pints and fall home and take 2 days to recover, but it’s alright we are Irish that’s what we do right !!!

    Bunch of backwards cunts

  18. lol, wait until they find out how much top performing students in university smoke weed. but yeah, all people on weed are scumbags or junkies, not like its super popular with students who enjoy normal lives.

  19. “Mental Health Concerns”… meanwhile in Massachusetts (a place with some of the best doctors in the whole world) is prescribing people cannabis to assist with mental health… because when its legal and you know what strains you are getting it has a positive effect.

I have ADHD and was prescribed in Massachusetts when I lived there and it was super helpful. These anti-drug groups are actually causing harm to people with mental health issues by limiting the treatment options available to them.

  20. Propaganda, plain and simple. I’m sure the cartels will love it though, keeping them in business. Shame all the uninformed elderly will eat it up as gospel though.

  21. >Records released under the Freedom of Information Act show that members of the Cannabis Risk Alliance met with Feighan to discuss cannabis policy in January 2021.

What were a bnuch of doctors and psychiatrists doing meeting the minister during a level 5 lockdown in January 2021 when there was 100 people a day dying? They didnt register the meeting on the Lobbying Register either becasue they say they found ‘a loophole’. Seems this group like to play fast and loose with the law

  22. Frank feighan is an absolute bollocks came into my local library trying to canvas the locals while I was working there. We told him we didn’t allow any canvassing in the library and he acted a complete prick before eventually leaving. Will never vote for this man
