Catholic Church in Newfoundland selling properties to pay victims. This needs to happen in Ireland!

  1. I’m not against churches in terms of architectural heritage type thing

But theres some that are such a waste of space and should be knocked for housing

  2. I firmly believe that we should remove article 44.2.6 from the constitution and let the Criminal Assets Bureau seize anything they’ve ever touched.

  3. The problem is that the majority of church property is land that schools and hospitals are on and the church is allowing the state to use the land for free.

Church won’t sell to anyone except the state because of the effect it would have and the state won’t buy.

I would be in favour of some sort of deal where the church gives ownership of the land to the state and the state pays abuse compensation.

  4. I think the problem is that the Catholic church moved their assets into trusts long ago. It was an obvious attempt to avoid such seizures in my opinion. I could be wrong but I think to seize the assets from the trusts is a legal nightmare and there isn’t enough appetite for it.

  5. Let’s be honest, we can’t even get them out of the public school system for some reason. This is simply never happening in Ireland
