Am I completely wrong for thinking that Ireland’s form of agriculture isn’t as bad as people are making it out to be? I thought that the fact that the majority of our cow’s are grass fed that it offsets the impact on the climate?
Edit: thanks for all the replies and links, I feel like I’ve really only gotten one side of the issue beforehand, so I’m going to look more into Irish farming and climate change, you’re all making interesting points, so thank you!
If we reduce beef production here wont it just increase somewhere else like brazil, where they cut down forests to make grazing lands?
The title on this post is rather misleading
Why hasn’t proper methane capture been implemented on slurry pits? Is it not feasible, and I’m some way pay for itself should the methane be utilised?
Grand , so we’ll just import or beef from another country who ramps up their production in order to meet the demands , thus having no positive impact on the climate. Bit like us halting peat production and going and importing it from fucking Latvia. I’m starting to think there are nefarious forces at play that are trying to make us poorer and have a lower standard of living
It’s not the gas, it’s not the coal, it’s not hundreds of millions of combustion engines around the world; it’s not the mass production and consumption of food and products that’s dumped the next day, it’s not the pillaging of land and oceans for every natural resource. Do ya know what it is? It’s the dastardly cows that’s doing it.
Isn’t it great the way we shift the blame on to animals instead of ourselves? Narcissistic cowards, every last one of us.

I can barely hold it in at a funeral.
Sorry, rural Ireland says no.
