Sounds like the house of a Lovecraftian horror. I LOVE IT!
The bricks at the front look like a penis lol
By the way, Bagrat himself is buried in the yard of this church, and this temple is considered one of the symbols of the unity of the Georgian state, it is symbolic that Russia removed this region Abkhazia from Georgia.
Pretty incredible to se building that was built during the time the Vikings were still fighting battles.
I understand that for r/europe users it is all a Russian plot and invasion by evil Russia. But if you read a little history, Abkhazia was an independent country from 1491 to 1876 (although from 1790 it was a vassal of the Ottoman Empire, and later became a vassal of the Russian Empire). In 1876 it was a separate region within tsarist Russia, on a par with Georgia (but of a lesser status than, say, Finland and Poland, which enjoyed greater independence). Only with the rise of the Bolsheviks in 1918 Abkhazia again became part of Georgia. For the Abkhaz themselves during the Soviet period this was a huge injustice, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union they agreed to a confederation with Georgia, to which the Georgian authorities responded by sending troops. Thus began the Georgian-Abkhazian war of 1992-1993, rest is more or less known to everyone
