Archie Battersbee: Court appeal decision due

  1. I feel sorry for the family, but the original decision is very unlikely to be overturned. They rarely are in these cases. Doctors don’t make these decisions lightly, and if there was _any_ hope at all they be fighting a completely different battle.

I wish the family the best, and I hope they find closure and peace after the inevitable happens. And that bloody Christian Legal Centre bunch of agitators needs banning from operation, all they do is prolong the pain for families like this.

  2. I wish the public had more understanding of what it’s like to look after a long term brain injured person. I used to work on a unit looking after them and when they were first admitted their families would show up every day then over time this would tail off as either life got in the way or it became harder to watch their loved one just breath (this is no criticism of the family, it is incredibly difficult for them).
Very often patients would get infections due to their ventilation. I always wonder why if families are sure their loved one has some awareness why they want them to live. It’s very uncomfortable being on a ventilator and try as we might to play music and chat that is no replacement for a real life.

  3. Having read into this before, it seems the christian legal centre that have been fighting the case on behalf of the family have tried to obstruct this at every step, even advising the family against consenting to an MRI. It’s such a shady organisation involved in so many questionable cases, I get that there should be an advocate for any side of a legal dispute but this organisation seems to do more than just advocate/provide legal assistance, and it’s sick that they seem to be using this family’s tragedy to push their own political agenda.

I hope this family are able to come to terms with their loss in time, and find some peace. Prolonging this child’s suffering and torturing his family with hope for some sort of miracle is just cruel.

  4. Judge Hayden has ruled he needs to come off life support. Not sure if any further appeals are possible but that should be clarified in court shortly.

  5. The mother is not acting rationally-understandable I suppose, but the decision needs to be taken out of her hands.
