FreeNow are introducing a €1 “technology fee”

  1. So that means if one person is ordering a taxi off free now they’re paying ~€4.20 then the €2 booking fee and now the €1 technology fee before they even sit in the seat. So €6+

And prices are going up 12% in September too

  2. A good reminder to uninstall.

The amount of times I uave used the app only for the taxi to cancel while en route means I had given up on it already

  3. Had one of their drivers drive dangerously (wrong side of the road when doing a turn took the wrong side), took 3 wrong turns despite verbal directions and also his gps (ie I said right and he went left with ‘oh sorry, you said left.’ ????? ) and also decided to take a pit stop in a garage to top up his tank 10 euro.

When I contacted their customer service got an ‘oh well, here’s 5 euro for the inconvenience’. Which they never applied. Made no difference really as if they’re not gonna take complaints seriously, I won’t be using them anyway.

  4. So now the billion dollar company realises it cant screw its drivers any further so they move on to the passengers under the guise of investing in tech, their investors must be wondering what happened to their investments

  5. “Technology fee”. What, to encourage users to use the more cost-efficient method of posting a request to book a taxi instead?

This company is a dead duck. Once you start cash-grabbing people will just walk away.

There may be a taxi shortage but there’s no taxi app shortage.

  6. Load of b#llox, €1.50 service fee here in Germany, and no other charges, and we already have eScooters. Scooters are €1 to unlock and 0.19c a minute, if you want to compare their prices later.

  7. Free now are the Netflix of taxi apps here. They had the lead for so long, now they’ve got competition so rather than reducing fees or introducing innovative freebies/add ons to retain repeat custom and attract new custom, they whip out their angry red dicks and launch a mega dry fuck of anyone that’s in their path.

Problem for them is, there are other options. Taxis are taxis. I’m going with Bolt. Free now can fuck off.

  8. Folks this is called using your monopoly power to gouge consumers. It was predicted and of course it’s coming to pass. As time passes prices will drift up and a bigger and bigger slice of the price will go to Free Now and not to the driver.

  9. Ya I use free now if I have to but try avoid it but we’ve no other similar options. Is bolt going to expand further seen they’re in Dublin and Cork already.

  10. A technology fee! Ah jaysus! So are we being charged for the existence of the App service (which is how they operate). Sadly ,I think they will lose a lot of customers. It’s now crossed that line of being too expensive! A line has been crossed! So ultimately if you book a Taxi the cost will now be a minimum of 6.80€ upfront ( “2€ booking + €1 Tech fee + €3.80 standard rate (or €4.20 nighttime rate) , / + 1€ for each additional passenger. Time to start looking at the bus timetables

  11. Pay your driver with cash.

The drivers are not adding the 1e to the meter. So presumably they’ll charge the customers cards.
