Energy rationing cannot be ruled out, warns Shell

  1. This would be the same company who cleared a couple of billion in profit last year whilst also sending me a letter saying they were putting my direct debit up by £150/month?

    Shell can do one.

  2. That is pretty hard to believe considering the fossil giants lobbying against alternative energy for decades is part of why we are in this mess. Same as the government saying “oh no we can’t tax their profits because they won’t invest in renewables!”

Also don’t we use roughly a third of the gas for electricity generation?
So are they trying to suggest we’re going back to the 70’s? (brown outs etc)

  3. Decades of failed energy policies. The quicker we get off fossil fuels the better. The problem is you need a crisis like this to trigger a change. The other problem is no government is going to back an insulation drive in fear of agreeing with insulate Britain and demonstrating their tactics worked.

  4. It’s all worth it to keep Ukraine the freest and most democratic nation that the world has ever known, with their God-Emperor Zelensky at the forefronts of our minds, now and forever. Amen.

  5. Is there anything better in the UK than Shell when it comes to electricity? Since they are big, they must have the best deals, but I honestly don’t know how’s the energy provider market these days.

  6. Lol, not trying to be funny, but sanctioning the guy who feeds you because you decide to get involved in a shit throwing contest, then blame them for it?

How mediocre and short sighted are the people in charge?

And why are they so worried about Ukraine all of a sudden? What about Palestine, we ain’t doing shit to stop that eh?

Something smells off, like really off, stinking rotten like a dead body that’s been under the floor for a month…

  7. I take it this will only effect corporations and not poor people, putting lives above profits, I mean, we won’t ration fuel for vulnerable people, right?

  8. I hope everyone realizes this is a coordinated effort to take down the West. Europe & America. Last free States.

  9. Shell wants to keep withholding supply to drive oil prices up. That’s what they did 6 months ago when we had that petrol shortage, worked out well for them

  10. Yeah nor can efficiency, using less power or investment in renewables. This is oil company scaremongering

  11. There are companies ready to start selling us cheaper fuel but the government blocked them doing so because it would be unfair to undercut the greedy giants. Capitalism for the poor and socialism for the rich!

I thought the beautiful free market was supposed to organically separate the wheat from the chaff but it turns out our government will intervene if it means poor people becoming poorer. This is why Martin Lewis blew up at the ofgem meeting.

  12. I look forward to the inevitable stockpiling of propane cylinders and the house explosions which ensue from unsafe storage and damage.

  13. Sorry but if I’m paying £150/month in a one bedroom flat, I should not be on a fucking energy ration from my supplier.

  14. The last time there was Energy Rationing was under Ted Heath. The OPEC Oil Price Shock meant Heath needed to ration energy to preserve profits. That accelerated into needing energy rationing to defeat a Miners’ Strike created by enforced pay cuts. All that has happened is that Energy Policy has been privatised.

  15. >The UK imports less than 5% of its natural gas from Russia, but is reliant on Norway for a third of supplies.
There are concerns that if Russia cuts supplies to the European Union further, or the bloc boycotts purchasing gas, then competition for supplies would increase.
So while the UK would not be as badly hit by supply disruption as the EU, it would be affected by prices rising in the global markets as demand increases.

Oh look, there’s that common theme again, that definitely isn’t related.
