It should be noted that figures doesn’t include colonies for Holland, England and Spain whilst it includes the whole empire for the Ottoman Empire which skews the figures quite a bit for the Ottoman Empire and probably lowers the 1800 estimate for Spain a little.
what is the unit of measurement here? florins? bitcoin?
Weird choice of countries, no China, no France or no HRE respectively 1st, 3rd and 4th world powers for most of the period. But US is here despite being insignificant until the 19th century. And Cape Colony? Come on.
Also I’m quite skeptical about these figures, Spain was richer than England or other northern European countries up until the 17th century. Same for Italy. Would like to know how these data were made.
Ottomans were poor af
oh woow look holland was rich af before the EU…who would have thought.
Yet another Norwegian Butter Crisis™ graphic. Or maybe it’s ®.
