  1. At first glance, I was like “okay whatever one lamp post” but then if you look it just *keeps going* like that. Still, as someone used to America bicycle gutters Ive seen worse.

  2. How come the lampposts are so close to the road? Aren’t they usually on the limit between the public and private property (something like 20cm away from the private property)? This is also dangerous for cars though this particular road looks very narrow and is probably limited to 30km/h.

    Kafka ? Absoluut !

  5. How would you fix this? all I can think of is shifting the tarmac slightly more to the lamp side by reclining the curb stones up to the lamp posts, then make that side pedestrian only. Shift the parking space over for the same amount and make that side twin direction bicycle only using the won surface area while keeping that thin, single file pedestrian strip for safety/crossing

  6. I feel sorry for the contractors, they probably had an order just to rebrick the side walk… and then found the streetlights there (which they offcourse can’t touch) and then showing any form of initiative probably would just end badly for them, leading to what we see here 8(

  7. If I’d live on the house on the right of it i’d sit on my lawn shouting :”13 13 13!” When a cyclist rides by.

When they look at my direction and bump into the pole.

    Id be like :“14 14 14”

  8. This has happened with one of my projects too in the past.

    1) The company that provides the lights and electricity is slow as fuck. They get months to plan it, but don’t do it.

    2) consultancy company barely does any work, writes it in report that this will happen. Shit hits the fan, consultancy company refers to report dd/mm/jjjj not my problem.jpg

    3) a contractor that needs to work in time or he gets a fine.

    4) local governement doesn’t have influence to push the utility company, doesn’t want to pay fine to contractor for delays.

    5) news paper (or social media now) makes picture. Next day they suddenly can work fast at utility company.

  9. In the past, they got rid of the old electricity poles by moving all the lines underground. I’m sure they can do the same with the lights. /s

  10. As an project engineer at a major firm designing public domain in Belgium this is no surprise to me. I would consider the meetings and communication with utility companies as one of the worst parts of my job.

They never have time to move their cables, whilst being part of the project as early as possible. They often forget what was asked from them. They can’t do anything because the paper work isn’t done yet in their systems,… So at a certain point the city has to go through with the project and the utilities will have to fix/move their infrastructure later.

Edit: vrt article states the same as I do
