  1. Orthodox church art is very beautiful. I always think about this tiny church I used to pass on my way to university when seeing it. That and Andrei Rublev.

  2. Contrary to what Wikipedia will tell you, the mosaics are not yet finished and are being placed as we speak (source: my own eyes and a couple of interviews in Serbian), but all the major compositions heve been completed. When finished in ca September 2022, it will cover some 15.000 m2 making it by far the largest mosaic in the world, although it’s already the largest. The second place is St Peter’s in Rome with some 10.000 m2.

  3. The upper inscription is the [Cherubic Hymn for Holy Saturday](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_all_mortal_flesh_keep_silence#Slavonic_translation_of_the_Greek_text,_used_in_the_Russian_Orthodox_Liturgy_and_in_certain_Eastern_Catholic_Rites):

    >Let all mortal flesh keep silent, and stand with fear and trembling, and in itself consider nothing earthly; for the King of kings and Lord of lords cometh forth to be sacrificed, and given as food to the believers;

    >and there go before Him the choirs of Angels, with every Dominion and Power, the many-eyed Cherubim and the six-winged Seraphim, covering their faces, and crying out the hymn: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

    The one behind that is a prayer commonly recited before receiving communion:

    >I believe, O Lord, and I confess that Thou art truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Who camest into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first.

    >I believe also that this is truly Thine own pure Body, and that this is truly Thine own precious Blood.

    >Therefore I pray Thee: have mercy upon me and forgive my transgressions both voluntary and involuntary, of word and of deed, of knowledge and of ignorance. And make me worthy to partake without condemnation of Thy most pure Mysteries, for the remission of my sins, and unto life everlasting. Amen.
