Russia (or the USSR) was never even communist; they were totalitarian capitalists under Lenin and they still are under Putin.
PVDA/PTB have nothing to gain from supporting Russia. By doing so anyway, they’re only proving that they’re completely out of touch with reality.

PVDA/PTB has always been against NATO and has condemned the invasion of Ukraine from day one. They’re anti-imperialist. The invasion of one doesn’t undo the decades long imperialism of the other side.
The party recognizes that in the end, it’s the people who suffer from the war. Both in Ukraine as here.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind a European defensive alliance, as long as we get rid of the US, which implies that NATO has to be dismantled.

I understand the reasoning and i am also not a big fan of America inc and the increased dependency on their military industrial complex and lng, they’re making big money of off this war ( which they rather want to keep going because a weak Europe is good for unregulated vulture capitalism that they are so fond of).
But let’s call a spade a spade, Angela Merkel tried appeasement, gradual incorporation by intertwining the economies which Putin has weaponized.
Getting closer to Europe, which in my eyes would have been a solid Russian strategy to increase living standards for the average Russian and decouple Europe from the US would mean less power for Putin and his cohort, and we see how he feels about that. These rich boomers are a plague.
Without Nato what would prevent the Russians from just taking what they want? Do you think Europe has the military power to deter them? I do not think so, so voting against is like wishing for a money tree imho.
I see lots of people discussing NATO in this thread, and very little people knowing the history of the organisation. [This video](https://youtu.be/8NlhfoFK9PI) is (in my opinion) the most objective summary of NATO history ever made.

I’m not exactly expecting any of you to come over to the communist position of revolutionary defeatism (one that PVDA doesn’t seem to share, certainly not consistently), but perhaps be a bit less naive about the reality of NATO, which is essentially a military alliance headed by the world’s most prominent imperialist power.

Hiermee spelen ze in de kaarten van een roekeloze dictator die de grenzen van een vrij en onafhankelijk land niet respecteert.
De NAVO is misschien niet perfect maar het is het enige wat Putin kan tegenhouden zijn invloed te verspreiden. De enige reden dat Putin deze extreem kostbare en risicovolle oorlog nog snel is begonnen is omdat hij bang was dat Oekraine binnenkort onze bondgenoot zou zijn. Daar is helemaal niets imperealistisch aan. Het is gewoon oekraine haar beslissing.
En als hun angst is dat dit de oorlog zou escaleren hebben ze het ook helemaal mis. Putin weet dat als hij 1 vinger naar een NAVO land uitsteekt, er binnen de maand een Amerikaanse vlag boven de kremlin zal hangen.
