She is worth nothing anyway and appearance would just lay bare more proof of her inaptitude.
Not making sense is Patel’s default setting.
I suspect she’s simply made the political calculation that during this transitional period, Parliament is uniquely weak. The Johnson government has already collapsed and is in the process of being replaced. There’s really very little Parliament can do by way of sanctions and the next government will get a fresh start as a new government.
“I’m doing two executions in the morning and a frontal lobotomy on an ‘illegal’ in the afternoon that day” she argued as she sharpened her talons.
She probably realises that she wont be in the job much longer after the new PM is in place, so she doesn’t really give a hoot.
She can just submit her bullshit by email then. It is not like Patel knows how to tell the truth anyway, she lives in her own world where she is on a moral crusade and everyone is against her.

Surely the committee has some power to force her in for questioning. Otherwise what’s the point of it?
