Once I find a place to live I’ll tell u if it’s big or not!
I’m not really sure you could say those homeowners are partly responsible for the housing crisis, but it’s also an unsustainable practice environmentally and having more apartments is probably the best solution for the housing crisis. So unfortunately she’s not totally wrong
Ciara Kelly needs to shut the fuck up.
I mean this is true. Irish people want a 4 bed semi-d with a massive garden and driveway.
I want a one bed apartment with a jax and shower that isn’t in the middle of fucking nowhere and is reasonably priced and also isn’t poorly built.
She’s absolutely not wrong, but what’s the alternative? We’re not exactly pumping out high quality buy to own apartments. You’d be mad not look to buy a 3-4 bed NEW semi D if you can afford it, it’s even incentivesed though the help to buy scheme
Really patronising. I’m sure she’s got a beautiful home, perhaps a few. It’s not unusual for people to want adequate space and a back garden. I’m renting and I’d hate the mentality that I need to take anything at all when it comes to it. She’s really privileged. She worked as a GP, now a presenter on Newstalk. She is a part of the ‘wellness’ industry, which pays well, giving webinars to corporation on health. She probably came from a privileged position too, even a GP in itself is a lucrative position to be in. She’s blaming individuals, not banks as she works with banks doing her ‘wellness’ talks. Easier to blame individuals and not look at how nuanced our housing crisis is
When I was Single I wanted to buy a lovely 1 bed flat or 1 bed bungalow. Now That I’m in a relationship She wants a 3 or 4 bed house.
So 3 or 4 bed house is what we’re getting.
When everyone realises thst she does this for attention we’ll be all better off.
She thrives off this. Just ignore her.
People are actually reacting to a screenshot of the Mirror, this should just be deleted
She’s not wrong. We have the highest underoccupancy in Europe. 70% of homes are under occupied.
But tiny studios with fridge / toilet / bed in one room is bullshit as well.
Look past her moral judgement, I can say that the houses the Irish build (especially in the country) are far to fucking big. It’s insane just how big they are considering their actually needs.
As for blaming thosepeople, she can go suck a pebble dash brick
She’s a dose. Pretty sure she has a massive house somewhere too.
I moved to the Uk 6 years ago because I knew I would never be able to buy a house in Ireland. The house I bought basically has 2.5 bedrooms. You have to go through the box room to get to the larger third bedroom. My bathroom is 1.5m x 1.5m. I have a small garden to the front and rear. My house is semi detached. It’s 100 years old and even the ceiling has wall paper. It’s very far from what I imagined I would live in in my 20s as my forever home but having gone through so much heartache over housing over the past 13 years I’m just over the frigging moon that I own something. I’m pretty sure most Irish people struggling for housing would feel the same.
Ciara Kelly would want to go away and shite with herself. If I’d been able to buy in Ireland I wouldn’t have had to emigrate.
I’ve tried to buy some real shit holes back home just to be able to stay in Ireland but was turned down by banks time and time again despite a full time job and having a deposit.
Posting whatever nonsense she spouts here is exactly what she wants. Don’t rise to her bullshit.
Tbf we are obsessed with gaffs. Well built apartments are a great option if we weren’t so obsessed with a low rise diddly dee everything.
Who?
Why do Irish people buy this British rag owned by a right wing Australian
It’s the social housing entitlements I have more issue with. I met a girl who was living in social housing in our area who thought just because she was “born and bred” in the area she was entitled to a house here. 3 kids with 3 different partners 🙄. People are rewarded for making bad decisions and there is a hand me down entitlement mentality.
The media love this narrative because it keeps us occupied fighting with each other rather than pointing the finger at our waste of space Government.
All I want is a maybe 2 bedroom apartment. That’s not a “too big” house. That’s a modest size place to live at best.
Instead I spend half my earnings on rent for one bedroom, while I have loads of friends who are older then me literally pay less on their mortgages for apartment/house than I do rent. Because they got them at a time when things were affordable. I entered my adulthood straight into a recession that has only gotten worse and worse.
Ciara says lots of things she is like the Dr Nick(Simpsons) of radio entertainment.
She’s a dose, always

This individual is the sole reason I stopped listening to Newstalk.
I’m 34 and live with my dad in a two bed apt on a commuter town just 20 mins from Dublin. He owns it, but has mentioned it will go to me. We get on pretty well and life has thrown a fair few curveballs my way the past few years, so I’m happy to stay there. In fairness we’re lucky, the apt is quite big and spacious. I feel bad for people who haven’t got that luxury nowadays.
This reminds me of when during the pandemic the only she would ever get excited about was not being able to go on a foreign holiday like it was a right to do so
You will own nothing and you will be happy.
Then make studio apartments 😃
She’s a troll ignore her
She’s an absolute daily mirror level media moron. Imagine telling a family to their face “how dare you feel entitled to a house big enough for your family” . She’s the worst of a new breed of trash “journalists” , a shit stirrer preaching from her rather large dwelling
I remember when versions of this dipshittery were making the rounds in America a few years ago. Cover up the name this quote is being attributed to and I’d have assumed it was a five year old Fox News headline.
“No, it’s not rampant speculative investment by large corporations and overseas investors. It’s you fucking peasants having the audacity to want to live in something larger than a shack.”

Sure, most don’t need a 4-bedroom or a mansion.
