PM has tabled his own confidence motion in the government – Labour says
Labour sources have told Sky News they believe Boris Johnson has tabled his own confidence motion in the government.
It is not clear when the debate and vote would take place.
Yesterday a request for a confidence motion in the government and the prime minister was turned down by Number 10.
A government spokesperson yesterday accused Labour of “playing politics” with their motion, claiming it was not “a valuable use of parliamentary time”.
By tabling his own confidence motion, Mr Johnson would be able to set the wording in such a way as to make it easier for his party to vote for it.
Just Banana Kingdom things.
What an absolute mess this all is.
…. Watch as the entire Tory party vote to stay in office, with Boris at the helm.
…. Because, Spineless, self serving cunts.
£100 says that the motion is framed in very muted terms specifies “that the House recognises that the current government is a necessary temporary measure to continue important public work while a new Conservative Party leader is selected, and has confidence in the government” to make it much easier to stomach – rather than the usual confidence debate which would involve a lot of cheering and talking up supposed achievements
I wonder if Boris is doing this so then the party votes confidence in the government, then will use that as a “well I now have confidence of the parliament so will not resign as PM after all” move.
Would not put it past him as a last bid to keep power, his own little Trumpian move.
I thought this was News Thump at first…
How exactly does this work? Does a PM announcing he has no confidence in his own government but *refuses to resign his position* not mean it’s not actually a vote of confidence? Or just an outdated political trick?
How are we still allowing this to go on? We have effectively a despot in the highest office in the country who is going to burn down as much of it as he can before he’s dragged out kicking and screaming.
It’s fundamentally ridiculous that our entire system of government is predicated on “gentleman’s agreements” that can seemingly only be broken by one side of the agreement, and without repercussion or even much of a batted eyelid?
It’s patently embarrassing. I know we are a nation of kind serfs and willing slaves, but at what point does rule by muppet dictator spur some actual civil unrest?
This country hasn’t developed politically for 250 years. This is just the most ruthless land Barron throwing his weight around, and we’re all more concerned with whether we get our gruel for the day to even look up and acknowledge it.
I thought this was Newsthump at first
If this actually happens and is general election time in the UK we must do all we can to ensure the Conservatives don’t get back in!!!!
That’s political suicide
I’m sure they all feel incredibly smug about this faux-Machiavellian piece of spin, but fuck…this surely makes our government look *even more* like absolute clown shoes to the international community (as well as those lucky few in the UK with any remaining semblance of faith in the government.)
You know what, **I’m so fucking sick of this shit**.
I try my best to stay informed, up to date on views and policies, play the game when voting, etc.
I’m fucking tired of these arseholes treating it like a god damned sports game. Seeing who can throw the most insults in parliament whilst trying to make their backbenches chuckle and guffaw, petty squabbling, knowing exactly what any MP is going to say in an interview following any kind of scandal or hot topic debate (“I fully support X and he has my utter faith” or “X is absolutely diabolical and is disgusting and needs dealt with immediately” depending on which party they belong to).
The sheer amount of **lies** that can just be said with no repercussions. The fact that almost nothing gets done whilst all this crap goes on.
Yes, we need an opposition. Yes, we need a balance of power. But just do your fucking jobs and stop with the pettiness and trying to one up each other.
It’s infuriating. People are suffering, are starving, are unable to pay their bills, are extremely worried about the future. Parliament on all sides just needs to do it’s bloody job and help us.
I hold MYSELF in contempt! Why should you be any different!?
The Venn diagram of the UK government and TV show Yes Minister is now basically just a circle.
Well that’s the most narcissistic thing I’ve heard in the past 5 mins, can we turn the world off and on again please
He’s calling it a confidence motion but it’s always been seen as a vote of no confidence… you have to have some serious disconnection from reality to call a VONC on yourself!
Ar….are weeee under a dictatorship????
Anyone remember when there was a fucking general election and we fucking just fucking voted for whoever seemed like they might be the best fucking candidate and then that fucker just became prime minister and did their fucking best for the next 4 or 8 years and then we had another fucking election and picked some other fucker to do the fucking job?????
Has that actually fucking happened since Tony fucking Blair left????????
Of course. This is just a repeat of Boris investigating himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a ploy to retain power and get out of resigning.
