Renewing Democracy through Independence

  1. The second paper, in a series of papers known as “Building a New Scotland” , published by the Scottish Government outlining their case for independence, has a focus on democracy. The arguments include the fact that Westminster has ultimate say over issues in Scotland, even without being supported by a majority of Scottish people.

The first paper in the series, titled “Independence in the modern world. Wealthier, happier, fairer: why not Scotland?” focusing on Economics can be found [here](https://www.gov.scot/publications/independence-modern-world-wealthier-happier-fairer-not-scotland/documents/)

  2. Nothing really new here, that’s essentially how a union works.

Good luck to the Scots if the do decide to leave but practically there will be a huge economic fallout (exponentially more than brexit). Better to be open about it.

  3. I can see Scotland thinking that thw UK fovernment is making poor decisions. And going it alone without the UK, but with the EU, could be a real benefit to Scotland. It looks promising when the best positioned economy in the UK is NI, because of its exceptions.

I wish rhe UK had not done the devastating Brexit, as I thinknit is a nation committing suicide. Scotland, NI, save yourself!

  4. Englishman here. Would be absolutely gutted to see the Scots leave the union, but tbh I would understand it and I do think things have changed enough to give Scotland a second vote.

Question though – would it still be cool for English to live and work there after independence? It’s something I’ve thought of on many a delayed train journey home in London! So just curious if it might still be possible or not.
