They are quoting someone. If you have problems with the quote take it up with the person that said it
The quote comes from Kevin Hanly, a guy who has autism
I understand where the person is coming from because Autistic people have now been proven to not have “social skills difficulties” like had been thought for decades, but actually have social skills differences to non Autistic people, however the vast majority of Irish Autistic adults still appear to count autism as a disability. Calling it a difference kinda feels belittling?
If an autistic person feels this way about their autism, then that’s more than fine. I have a nephew who is non verbal with autism and it is absolutely a disability for him, but if this fella wants to say that he doesn’t feel disabled, but differently abled, I don’t see the problem. It’s how he feels.

More contradictory corporate woke bollocks.
It only becomes a “disability” when the greater society refuses to willingly adapt, acknowledge, and accommodate when it comes to working with autistic people.
Isn’t that misinformation?
It’s not. Unless it is.
There’s various levels. For many it’s not a disability , for many it is.
As someone with a diagnosis of Autism, it gets on my nerves when people take it upon themselves to stand for a group and say this is what is right or wrong for the whole community. This autistic person they are quoting doesn’t appear to me at least to be trying to speak for all autistics, and so I have no issue with them. And I think it’s great that supervalue is promoting someone in the community. Each autistic person’s relation to their diagnosis, and how they feel about it is there own, and they should be able to express that. Additionally, my stance on the matter is that as autism is a spectrum, with some people having greater difficulties that others based on the condition, autism can’t be readily defined on the whole as a disability.
Then I know a lot of mothers who are about to lose their carers allowance.
