There is nothing funnier or more terrifying than the Tory leadership candidates

  1. They’re a colourful bunch.

There’s a culture war warrior, a different kind of culture war warrior, and an anti woke campaigner

  2. Literally tearing each other apart, dirty secrets being exposed which normally would not see the light of day.

Yet once the contest is concluded they will all be lifelong friends and colleagues.

The only admirable thing about the Tory party is how quickly they can turn from viscious blood letting to slapping each other on the back with insincere smiles.

  3. There is something much funnier and more terrifying; the way the leadership contest is being played out in public when we needn’t know anything about it.

The leadership of a political party should be an internal-only affair. Choose who is most fit to lead- who is the best fit to face the challenges the country faces.

Why there are public debates on TV is a mystery to me- is the candidate who tells the best jokes the one who will be shoehorned into the position? This is exactly how we got Johnson.

Who are these candidates appealing to? Pledges to cut taxes sound more like appeals to the public than to the party members they should be trying to influence.

We need to break the mantra of “we must have a character the public likes in power” and have some actual skilled and statesmanlike politicians with wisdom and experience for a change.

  4. I would like to put a bet, whoever it is they will do hardcore tax breaks got the rich and fire government obligations like NHS police etc

  5. As much as I despise the Conservatives, I’m not sure about the article talking about what’s funny when their article is overly littered with poor attempts at jokes

  6. The MPs backing the candidates has nothing to do with who they think is the best. It’s all to do with who is going to given them a cabinet position.

  7. LOL

    >Then there’s Liz Tru … – sorry, I refuse to believe Liz Truss is a real-life candidate to be prime minister and not just a fever dream after too much cheese. (Don’t worry Liz, it’s British produced.)

    >I suppose you could say it is a credit to her [Priti Patel] would-be leadership skills that she hired people with relevant experience.

    Tragic

    >Wheelchair users aren’t leaving the house because energy prices mean they can’t afford to [charge their chairs](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-61001414).

  8. When is this going to end?! How are people still putting up with this kind of politics after a decade of failure?! I hate ALL of these people, none of them is good, they should all resign.

  9. Shock news! Extreme left wing newspaper thinks all conservative leadership candidates are crap!

Next there’ll be an opinion piece on where bears shit.

  10. Maybe so, but tRump and his knuckle dragging supports fit your description like a glove.

  11. The anti net zero stuff is properly terrifying. Especially if you expect to be alive in 30 years, live close to the coast, have children or grandchildren or just care about future generations or people in poorer parts of the world. Or if you hate immigration / refugees as much as many tories do.
