  1. President Andrzej Duda signed the laws ratifying the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO at the Naval Port in Gdynia. – Instead of weakening, NATO strengthens by joining more strong states – said President Andrzej Duda

It is a very important day for the safety of this part of the world and an important day for future generations of Poles and those who will live and build their happiness in this part of Europe. The two countries, Finland and Sweden, to which these laws apply, for many decades, and in the case of Sweden you can speak of centuries, were neutral countries. There was no public conviction as to whether these countries should belong to NATO, said President Andrzej Duda after the act was signed.

    – People believed that as a result of bilateral actions that they can lead in this part of the world with a great empire like Russia, it would be enough to ensure security. Russian aggression against Ukraine has definitely changed this view and the authorities of both Finland and Sweden saw it clearly and clearly, not through what was said in the political parties, but through what the societies were saying. Growing support for strengthening the security of countries through belonging to the NATO community – added the president.

    – It was made clear that these countries want to belong to the Alliance. By making the spectacular decision that the path of these countries to NATO is open. On July 4, I met the political class at the National Security Council. I would like to thank the deputies, female senators and senators with all my heart that it happened at an express pace. The rapid course of work made it possible for the President of the Republic of Poland to sign the laws on July 22, which means that Poland will fully approve the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, he said.

    – This is an important moment. The last two countries of the Baltic Sea basin, apart from Russia, are part of NATO. This strengthens our security. These are two large armies that become allied armies. These are the armies of countries we can count on. The border of the North Atlantic Alliance with Russia becomes 1000 km longer. Was this what Putin wanted? Russia expected the attack on Ukraine to divide NATO and strengthen Russia. The opposite happened. The Alliance has shown unity from the very beginning and supports Ukraine, including us, Poland. This aid is sent by the United States, Great Britain, France and smaller countries, such as the Baltic states. Instead of weakening, NATO is strengthening itself by adding more powerful states, he said.

I believe that thanks to this, the free world will win and Ukraine will also win, he concluded.

On Wednesday, the Senate adopted laws in which it is consented to the President of the Republic of Poland to ratify the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO. Earlier – on July 7 – the bills were passed by the Sejm. After they are signed by the head of state, published in the Journal of Laws and entered into force, the president will ratify the Protocol to the North Atlantic Treaty on the accession of new members of the Alliance.
