At some point in the last few days, Priti Patel will have sat at her desk, looked at this and weighed whether there was any political advantage to her to act.
Now arrest the woman who trafficked him here as a slave. If the BBC found her, the police can.
He was trafficked as a child, was that ever in question?
Patel is absolutely raging, she had already bought a ticket with his name on it to rwanda.
Would have actually been quite funny to see the home office attempt to deport someone so highly viewed by the public.
Fuck, thought this was newsthump at first.
No, its genuine. Fuck me.
I hope he uses this to campaign for the rights of those who are not as lucky as he is to be in this position. Even those who came legally, such as the Windrush generation, are not protected by deportation by a government who is determined to get them out. He needs to convince those who see him as ‘one of the good ones’ that those trafficked here should not be deported for something they would have had no control over.
Let’s face it Mo Farah was never going to see any negative consequences from this. Someone we had never heard of though with the same back story might have been a totally different proposition.
At the end of the day he has been in the uk for a long time and has contributed to the british economy and society. The home office and tories can piss off, including london metropolitan police.
This is double standards, right? I don’t think **anyone** in his position should be deported, but under the current hostile environment policy – *if Mo Farah wasn’t a “Sir”, or an athlete, or a celebrity, because in this country there’s one rule for the rich and famous and another for the rest of us* – his deportation wouldn’t have even been noticed by the media.
I got very depressed seeing people on Twitter claiming he needed his knighthood taken away, needed deporting etc. Sad, sad people out there, truly.
So all someone needs to do to get the home office off their back is have a highly successful sporting career and be made a Sir. That’s not too much to ask is it? /s
On a serious note it’s right he’s not being deported but just goes to show how arbitrary the decisions are for many cases where someone isn’t known and loved by the public.
ofc they won’t. he’s like half of all of team GB olympic gold medals
Good job he has a gold medal and a knighthood. I hope this, and any similar cases, aren’t actually seriously considered.
And why not? Home office picking and choosing when to apply their shitty policies
Never any real doubt, since he’s a high-profile popular figure who’s achieved tons representing the UK, received honours for it, and has no real negative press (AFAIK.)
Glad for him of course, he absolutely deserves nothing else, anyone in such a situation deserves nothing but help and compassion, but I wish I felt confident that others in the same position without the clout would be treated the same.
People in his situation who aren’t world famous record breaking gold medal athletes on the other hand…
He’s rich, one of the most famous and influential athletes we’ve had in history and a cbe. This man is the face of long distance running, both in the uk and globally. If he wasn’t an Olympic hero he’d probably be getting shipped off right now. Priti Patel must be fuming right now
Makes you question how many “Mo’s” we have and will continue to ship to Rwanda.
Why the *fuck* was this even a question? They interrupted the heartwarming story of his PE teacher helping him to go from zero to hero, to note that out of the goodness of our fucking hearts we won’t ship him off to a third world country he can barely remember for the heinous crime of having been trafficked. What about all the kids not lucky enough to be an Olympic athlete? What about our moral responsibility to the victims of modern slavers? Hsssss.
How can they when he’s the only person to ever beat The Cube?
Ultimately if he hadn’t won Olympic gold for Great Britain he’d probably be on a flight to Rwanda.
This was a potential win loss for him though as he ain’t getting deported but as soon as he stops been relevant or a pull for branding and other financial gains he’ll be gone quicker than you can say mo.
He might be relieved now but i bet that will be looming over him.
any comment on who sold and bought him? surely the criminals that had him enslaved could be still around?
Absolutely clear Evil-Lyn wanted to have him on the next available flight to Rwanda, but she would’ve been overruled. Also I am convinced she’s rearranged her furniture somewhat abruptly!!

The Home Office? Being not terrible??
