Labour to pledge ‘ironclad discipline’ with public finances | Labour

  1. I know Labour have no choice but to say it, but coming from Rachel Reeves’ mouth, I don’t like it one fucking bit. She seems to me to be very much part of the liberal plutocratic wing of Labour and I have a pretty good feeling I know who’ll be asked to show “discipline” under her as Chancellor of the Exchequer…and it won’t be the people who are able to show any more than they already are.

To put it plainly, when I hear talk of “ironclad discipline” from people like her, I hear “let’s take more necessities away from ordinary people to prop up the libertine lifestyles of the existing elite”.

  2. It sounds like a Tory soundbite. It sounds wrong. What, is, fucking, wrong, with Labour. The clue is in the fucking name?!!?? LABOUR as in the Labour force. Where’s the ‘fair wages’ ‘fight inequality’ ‘NHS investment’

  3. People need to realise that spending is no longer considered good, if labour says they’ll spend more than the country earns then it’ll get destroyed by the media “how much is this going toncost” is all people care about because they are thick and told government spending is like a house budget.

The best way to get out of recessions and debt is to boost the economy and that requires lots of spending.

Thats one of the best tricks the establishment has managed to do, to trick voters to be against spending to clear debt.

  4. Ah, but since there’s virtually no accountability in Parliament, and they all voted against making lying in Parliament an offence, and, won’t unstich the recent Tory motion that diminshed responsibility of MP’s for misleading Parliament (will they?) then its unlikely. Sounds like another lie from serial deception artists.

Why aren’t they suggesting they’ll roll back on all the evil shit like Rwanda and the dissolution of food standards and environmental protections. Or the attacks on free journalism. Oh, thats right, they won’t. They’re just the Tories with a different smiling-assassin mask.

  5. I’m beginning to think the Left needs a new party. Something like the opposite of UKIP that threatens Labour’s voter base and forces it to start fucking acting like Labour instead of David Cameron’s Conservative party.

  6. Labour always say this but don’t seem to achieve it – with the exception of Tony Blair
    Harold Wilson required IMF
Jim Callaghan 15% inflation in 1977
    Gordon Brown selling gold reserves

  7. Given that the level of government borrowing is determined pound for pound by the level of private sector saving, you have to ask what Labour has against people saving more and borrowing less.

Still in bed with the banks? Still committed to the ‘Full Funding Rule’ which gives free government money to rich people?

Perhaps somebody could send Rachel a copy of our paper: [The Self Financing State](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/public-purpose/sites/bartlett_public_purpose/files/the_self-financing_state_an_institutional_analysis_of_government_expenditure_revenue_collection_and_debt_issuance_operations_in_the_united_kingdom.pdf)
