I mean.. They turn down overqualified applicants. That probably doesn’t help.
or, and hear me out here, racist, sexist people are drawn to jobs where they can exercise power.
I got a pay rise to stop me saying the N word.
Articles like this do nothing positive for anyone.
…B-because non-racist, non-sexist, high-quality cops are given higher wages?
…What? O_o
What the fuck kinda argument is that? So if we pay them more they’ll stop being racist? Get in the fucking sea.
It doesn’t cost anything not to be a low-quality moral human aka racist, sexist twat.
Wtf is this reasoning?
Worth bearing in mind the only evidence of this is WhatsApp banter
So…. Higher pay makes people less racist? What kind of brain-dead shite is this
Filled.with idiots
What a ridiculous claim.
Apparently people on higher wages can’t be racist/sexist/otherist… That’s crap.
It’s pretty clear what he’s saying for those questioning it- with low salaries come fewer applicants, so they are forced to hire from a weaker pool of candidates.
Also, paying more will attract better people, as currently, intelligent, socially skilled, motivated, non-racist people have more opportunities and go elsewhere. Brining the pay up attracts those better people back to the job.
Go speak to a bunch of people on £20k and £35k and tell me which group is more racist- it’s a class thing.
We should get immigrants to do the job.
“We’re racist and sexist please give us more money” is a new strategy.
Logically , it is a tenuous argument. There has to be a certain level of intelligence and common sense involved in being a police officer. An awful lot of a police officers job will be engaging in situations and views that they may agree with privately, but by the nature of the job have to be handled correctly.
Naturally , you will have bad apples and people with extremist views. I would argue that everyone on here has come across people in their workplaces who fit that criteria.
It is a series of fine lines, politics and p.r. stop and search is a good idea in some places, in some instances. It is also, obviously ,Protection of society or harassment of a part of society and is open to abuse.
We, as a society generally damn or praise the police on an instance to instance basis . It is an extremely difficult and stressful job. They should be paid more and we need more of them. Low pay does not equate to low morals or integrity. To suggest that your ‘ class’ background is relevant is also a generally poor argument. I would suggest that guidelines, targets, understaffing and the general public attitude towards the police are the more pressing problem.
This consistant calling police racist is the exact reason male grooming gangs such as Telford were able to get away with what they did. Just leave off for a bit.
Crap wage = fewer applicants, fewer applicants while having a desperate need = …..
I applied for a staff job years ago in a regional force and was told to apply to the Met if I wanted to be a police officer as “they kidnap people off the street there”.
With the wages they pay in the rest of the country they can be very selective in who they take. In London that money doesn’t go as far so they can’t be as picky.
But then there’s the situation in Telford with the exploitation ring where police where afraid to act because of people crying racism. So wtf do we do?
Similar situation in the prison service, but I do not think this is all about pay, I think it has a lot to do with how these people have been brought up by their parents. I have seen many young people coming into the prison service with Uni Degrees who have a shocking lack of respect for anyone other than themselves
Total bollocks.
The Met hires racist, sexist, and low quality cops as ~~it can’t pay enough~~ that’s who want to be cops.
Perhaps the general public possess those qualities and it’s inevitable that recruits will reflect that.
