“Questions have been raised in the island of Rhodes by the action of a group of young Dutch tourists, who stole a large Greek flag and then wrote insulting slogans against Greece on it.

The three 20-year-old Dutch men were arrested late on Friday afternoon and were brought before the Prosecutor’s Office in the evening of the same day, which charged them with vandalism and theft. They were released at 20:30 on Friday following a verbal order from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

When asked about the incident, the three Dutch perpetrators said they were drunk and did not understand what they were doing. According to dimokratiki.gr, they claimed that they did not want to insult their country of vacation or break any law and that the next day when they woke up they realized that they had made a stupid move but they did not know how to return the flag.

However, the way they acted shows that they had a plan, while being careful not to be noticed. After the incident the Greek flag was found and returned to its place.

The investigation began on Thursday afternoon by police officers from the Archangelos Police Department in collaboration with police officers from the State Security Directorate of Rhodes on the occasion of the removal of the 28 square meter Greek flag that was raised 3 days ago at the medieval fortress “Feraclos” or “Faraklenon Castle”, which is located at a height of 85 meters overlooking Haraki on the east coast of the island of Rhodes.

It was a symbolic move – an initiative of the singer, Giorgos Giannias, who hails from Malona. The flag was taken down, however, a few hours later.”

  2. Can Greece keep those idiots there for a while, pretty please? We don’t really need them back here in the Netherlands…
