Mark Wahlberg’s 23-minute Dublin-Clare flight? The super-rich who have ‘absolute disregard for the planet’

  1. 23 mins… that’s pretty quick, it’d take a lot longer by car obviously. (Granted it looks like it was moved to Shannon for cheaper parking)

When are they gonna start laying into the people who fly from Donegal/Kerry to Dublin.

The examples from the US are celebs flying instead of 20 and 30 minute journeys by car a few times a month. I don’t think this falls into the same category….

  2. In the whole push for a greener future, we never hear of any proposals to heavily tax private jets, super yachts, etc. The rules are for us plebeian classes, not for the betters.

  3. Like Leo DiCaprio or the Royal family lecturing the Hoi polloi on not polluting. If you have a super yacht you’re not exactly living your truth mate.

Easy for the rich to lecture us plebs.

  4. It would be so cool to get a dedicated electric plane service between airports on the island. Would you take a 23 minute Dublin to Clare flight if the plane was electric?

  5. It’s OK. We’ll just pay for the environmental damage his flight caused via the carbon tax added on to a bag of coal.

  6. This reminds me of when Will Smith and his family were in Dublin because his daughter was opening for Justin Bieber’s tour maybe 10 years ago.

Apparently they were flying to Manchester after with Aer Lingus – a 50m flight. Aer Lingus don’t have Business Class/First Class available for this flight so the Smiths chartered a private flight so as not to fly in economy with the riff raff.

  7. Best advice for everyone. Until world leaders, movie stars, royals etc actually start to follow the nonsense they spout in speeches or on twitter then you shouldn’t either

  8. I’m not advocating we dump toxic waste into water or burn CFCs for fun to stick it to celebrities. What I’m saying is live your life the way you want to.

If a movie star, world leader etc says everyone should use less energy to “save the planet” while they live a great life where they have no constraints on themselves privately but publicly are a climate activist they should be called out for their hypocrisy and people should follow their actions not their words

  9. Or Kylie Jenners 3 minute flight in Los Angeles that she probably does daily. Climate change doesn’t affect Rich people.

  10. This is exactly the problem why you will never get ordinary working people to support common sense climate policy when the elites buy yachts, use private jets to fly into Davos etc. Al Gore, Bono, Prince Charles lecturing everyone while they own multiple mansions that consume vast more energy than the average home. Cunts like that make me sick, dont get me started on Jeff Bezos and his private yacht.

  11. Why should we, the common person, give a fuck then? Until these super rich start to play their part, all my waste is going in the black bin!!

  12. This really feels like it’s not making much impact on global warming and the fossil fuels or farting cows or whatever is the better thing to moan about.

Like I assume a celebrity just can’t really fly on a regular plane because they will have every gobshite bothering them to take a photo or whatever.

  13. What is this shite, if I could fly from Dublin to anywhere on the West coast and it was affordable I would. No singular person and no group of people are responsible for climate change. Corporations are, governments are, society as a whole is. This new trend of calling out singular celebrities for taking short flights is ludicrous.

  14. He comes across as a cunt to me. He half blinded an Asian man and threw rocks at some young black kids when he was a young lad.

He’s supposed to be a holy joe now, has some sort of weird prayer app

  15. I’m fully on board with taxing the rich for stuff like this, no argument there. Buuuut:

It’s just another drop in the ocean isn’t it. It’s not making it difficult for some rando richo or celeb that’s going to make a tack of difference, it’s properly taxing the corporations, it’s addressing the military industrial complex, it’s working out how to move everyone to more sustainable energy. But all we do is run around shouting at each other and pick on the low value targets.

  16. Will he be taxed a hefty carbon tax bill for this? Or is it just old people burning turf in rural areas that causes climate change

  17. While you sit and watch your paper straw turn to mush the rich and famous are taking 3 minute flights on private jets.

  18. We all act like we wouldn’t do the exact same in their position. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but don’t pretend we can understand what it’s like to have that much wealth and fame. We live in completely different realities.

  19. There was a lad on Matt Cooper yesterday does be on weekly for the current save the planet trend;

Yesterday it was discussed that Brazil are doubling (sic) their cattle heard this year and he was suggesting that its OK to farm in Brazil, with subsequent methane damage to the environment, as they are regarded as a third world country and they need the work/money etc. to thrive, but as Ireland is a first world country, we need to reduce our cattle herds – probably the most bizarre green type statement I have ever heard

  20. The problem with climate change is that ordinary people can do everything under the sun to combat it and rich cunts will just not change whatsoever
