What do you mean freedom of movement is a two way thing?!
They also suggested our fathers smelt of elderberries.
Only an idiot would blame France, we wanted to end free movement not them.
We have had years to hire and train more customs staff, it is not France’s fault we failed to do that and we should not expect them to pick up our slack because it is inconveniencing Brits. It sucks for those in the queues but this is the government’s fault for not preparing for Brexit and hoping problems would fix themselves instead.
All that sovereignty.
What’s disgusting is that the bbc and other media pushed with an anti french story as this was unfolding, hoping the public are too stupid to understand. If it’s nothing to do with brexit, why is it not happening on the German or Spanish border? Also, with biometrics coming in very soon, this is the new normal.
And how right they are, only the moron brexiteer camp could attempt to gaslight this as being someone else’s fault but theirs. fuck you cunts
Those saying that the French should staff up, do you know how many border booths are open? From the reporting I have seen, it’s all of them.
What you’re forgetting is that the process to check travel documents, that once took a few seconds, now takes up to a minute. Why would you not think it would take longer to cross the border when thousands descend on to the border all at once??
Pre-brexit, if you’ve travelled to any country outside the EU you know it’s not a speedy process to cross a border, especially during busy times. Now we’re outside the EU why would it be any different then traveling to the US, UAE, or Japan. Even with a visa waiver it still takes time.
Suck it up and accept that this was our own doing and move on.
Dover doesn’t sound very French
It’s not France’s fault a minority of our population was permitted to deprive the majority of their free movement. Fast-track those who voted Remain; send the Leavers to the back. They won, they can get over it.
Why not ask the Brits to staycation and help boost the local economy? That way traffic is prioritized for truckers and port is less stressed. Local economy wins too. Win win.
It was reported yesterday that the absent French staff themselves were also stuck in the traffic chaos!
What a childish series of events.
“It is France’s responsibility to ensure the British people can enter their country in a comfortable and efficient manner.”
They should be huge TVs playing Boris’ good bye speech where he said, he got brexit done to those waiting in the queues, so they can be more thankful.
It’s kind of interesting how in other subs the title implies it was Brexits fault but in r/unitedkingdom the titles been worded different. I kind of doubt throwing money at this problem would solve much in the long term and short term.
I’m most probably wrong but I feel no matter what you do passport checks and custom checks will take a fair bit of time especially if you set them up properly. No matter what you do it’s going to have diminishing returns.
The people responsible for this are the corrupt British MP’s who lied and tricked the British public into Brexit which is a catastrophic disaster for the UK. There should be a full investigation and lengthy jail times for what they’ve done.
Good on them
The only thing we have to blame is ourselves for this mess
Remember when this or something similar was predicted year’s agos? Project fear ended up being project reality.
Our government went above and beyond to end free movement at any cost. This is part of that cost. Brexit voters should be thanking the government for this, as this time they delivered exactly what was voted for.
The idiots blaming France are the same idiots who voted for Brexit. It’s embarrassing being British these days, I’m genuinely glad the yanks manage to outdo us.
Why do we even want to go to France and subject ourselves to French/European law? We gotta enjoy all that newly found sovereignty /s
Leave means you can leave!
They’re right.
I travelled this weekend for work (I’m a musician). Had to get to Dover at 4am to eventually board a boat about 9am. This was before any serious queues.
However the paper work is insane. As a band we use to be able to get the van on the ferry or in the tunnel, go to Europe and play show no different from playing another part of the UK.
Now we need a carnet. A document that lists every piece of equipment we travel with (we travel with 20,000 quid worth so it is a lot). This needs to include weights and country of origin and value of each item. Right down to spare cables, strings etc. It costs roughly £500 to get it and takes ages to compile. We can now not add any new single item to the list for the next 12 months without starting again. So a new song that needs a new piece of equipment cant be played without extra expense.
Plus we now need to make an extra stop on the UK side to get the carnet checked and stamped followed by one on the French side. Both ways too of course.
The information on this is not readily available and the ferry company had no idea what to do with us, putting us through as freight with the lorries. We read all we could and just hoped for the best. It all went ok but added hours to our journey meaning we now need to travel out a day earlier and come back a day later than we used to so as to avoid issues. That also adds another big expense.

Peter Stefanovic explains well here https://youtu.be/4LSVP7O-Cjk
France are right
What if Brexit was just a French plot to troll Britain tho
They should just take a private jet to France. Much easier. /s
And even if it was, we took back control from France remember?
How the fuck the government can blame France for traffic jams in Dover is beyond me.
Fuck the Tories, and fuck any peanut brain who still supports them. You have killed our country.
Not sure why France would care tbh, we did this to ourselves.
Probably erecting large image of Theresa May sticking two fingers up Europe probably didnt help relations – Quelle Suprise

How does this nonsense benefit anyone?
