Does anybody remember when 7 Eleven were in Ireland back in the very early nineties?

  1. No, I honestly don’t remember!

But I became very familiar with them when living in the Philippines. They are everywhere, but believe it or not, they aren’t owned by the USA 7 Eleven company. I heard (but that may be totally wrong) that they couldn’t control the local Philippines subsidiary company, so just divested it and let them do their own thing.

  2. I don’t remember them at all were they based in just Dublin or something? did they get bought up by Centra or Spar or did they just go bust?

  3. I may be misremembering, but wasn’t the premises that is now the Des Kelly’s on prospect road ( by the canal) a 7 eleven at one point?

  4. They were here in the 80’s. They left in 87, and they were great.

In the 90’s we had Proper Dunkin Donuts stores which had constantly fresh doughnuts all day long. None this day old doughnuts sitting in a box in the corner of a Spar type nonsense we have now

  5. Yeah, I loved them at the start, mid to late eighties? They had burgers, chips etc, and microwave ovens. It was handy when you were on the way home at night, even if they tasted like shit.

Then I started to notice the badges the staff were wearing.. “Hey, be nice to me because I’m new” and other such cringe messages.

Then we found out that they had lie detectors for staff members, or so the unions claimed. I’m not sure if it was ever proven. I think the idea was that if the tills didn’t add up staff could be tested. That led to many people, including myself, boycotting them.

  6. I find 7/11 the best when in south east Asia loads of drinks and anyone who been to Thailand the toasted cheese sandwiches that are done in the microwave are the best.

  7. I could find absolutely nothing what’s about their brief foray into the Irish convenience store market during the late 80’s early 90’s on line. I thought I was having a Mandela Effect moment. There were 2 beside me. One in Nutgrove and one in Terenure.

  8. No. I don’t ever recall seeing a 7/11 in Ireland in my 50 years. Maybe they just didn’t have one anywhere near me.
