We’re going to keep paying the cost for the shortcuts in the boom and never punish or fix things from reoccurring aren’t we..
So how much of our tax money will be propping up dodgy builders now?
When we moved to France I learned that French builders and craftspeople need to guarantee their work for 10 years. If the company doesn’t exist anymore, their insurance will foot the bill. It’s not perfect and can be a lengthy process, but better than the bs Irish developers gotten away with over the years.
The government needs to stop just accepting responsibility for these fuck ups. If there is a case against the state let it go to the courts.
The argument that the state failed to regulate/police the market therefore they need to cover all the damages seems crazy to me. Especially when you consider that they did try to regulate the
building market but rural Ireland revolted and they were forced to roll back the changes.
And when you apply this logic to everything it just seems silly. The state would be liable for damages of every burglary/mugging because they failed to police the market. 100s of people get scammed everyday. Is the state liable for all these damages because they failed to regulate/police the market?
We should offer to help the victims, but just accepting responsibility is stupid
My mother’s house was thrown up during the boom and it’s the most least sound proofed house I’ve ever been in. I can hear her putting a teaspoon down when I’m at the other end of the house upstairs.
Is there supposed to be soundproofing in floors by the way?
