I’m trying to find saffron to make [saffron buns](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saffron_bun), but [Albert Heijn](https://www.ah.nl/producten/product/wi414972/verstegen-zakje-saffraan-heel) and [Jumbo](https://www.jumbo.com/producten/jumbo-saffraan-0,05g-183630STK) charges around €1,3 for 0,05g, which is almost 5 times more expensive than back home. Is there a better (cheaper) place to buy saffron?

Asian or Turkish/Moroccan supermarkets sell all kinds of spices way cheaper than any supermarket.
Maybe you were using fake saffron back home?
Saffron is just expensive like that, but maybe a Turkish or Asian store might have cheaper ones? Cant imagine they’ll be much cheaper than the supermarkets…
[Saffron usually goes for 7.50 to 8.50€ per gram.](https://bestesaffraan.nl/prijs-saffraan/)
[5 euros for half a gram](https://www.pit-pit.com/saffraan.html) was the best I could find from a source that seems trustworthy to me. I’m by no means an expert on it but they claim to sell Sargol saffron and that their product is certified according to ISO standards. Reviews of the shop on trustpilot seem mostly positive.
