Hoping to roadtrip in Norway this September – since we are limited on time, I’m trying to put together an itinerary to see the highlights. Altough we would love to see Tromsø and the Lofoten Islands, it seems that considering the timing (Northern Lights won’t be in season) and the fact that we fly into Oslo, the **south of the country** would make more sense: **Oslo, Bergen, and the Western Fjord region**.

We have been looking at this itinerary as a guide: [https://roadtripeuroguide.com/south-norway-road-trip/](https://roadtripeuroguide.com/south-norway-road-trip/)

My main questions are:

* Are 10 full days necessary in Norway or can we manage to skip a couple parts of this itinerary and just spend 7-8 days there
* Is mid-September a feasible time for a roadtrip like this? We were originally planning for first week of September – not sure how much of a difference there will be in weather/daylight hours?

  1. Yes, you can easily skip a few days. The itinerary seems to only be along the coast, you can easily shave off days by driving direct from Oslo to Bergen. Driving inland will also give you more views and nature by driving across the mountains and wild area in the middle of South Norway instead of only driving the rather boring main road along the Southern coast as the blogger did.
