One of the journos for the Dublin Inquirer was looking to talk to people this is happening to, may be worth reaching out to them.
They can’t get enough drivers at the moment the whole service is suffering because of it
13 buses get regularly cancelled
Whats the reason? Worker shortage?
I rang the donnybrook depot one night after neing stranded when four buses just didn’t appear at the first stop. I was told “it’s Friday evening, the traffic is mental and our lads want to get home in time”
I didnt know how to respond – there were 40+ people at the stop relying on them to get home too
The same thing was happening with bus eireann buses all last week as well.
I hate the way other than this stupid outdated app there’s no real way to be notified a bus has been cancelled it’s such a stupid system
Were they actually cancelled or was it just that shitty real time app?
The 123 has been similar in the evenings, with it meant to be every 10/12 minutes but 3/4 buses never show up or decide to end the route at Parnell St or something.
I’m just impressed that it actually shows the buses being cancelled on this route.
Here in Galway, we just get buses that don’t show up despite both the app and the bus stop sign insisting that they were on time.
I had two Go-Aheads and a Bus Eireann no show on me earlier this week. Was two hours late to where I wanted to go.
Never experienced any of this while living in London. Busses always on time including the tube.
This would be solved fairly quickly if the Minister for Transport got a kick in the balls for every missed bus.
Living in Japan now where a train or bus is never a minute late and if early it waits till it’s scheduled departure time to be fair.
I’ll never forget having a half day in work out by dolphins barn finishing up around 1pm & waiting 3 hours on a bus, some cancelled many more counting down to due and then falling off the face of the earth. Lashing rain and a pregnant women with a child in a pram among many others waiting at the same stop. When one finally showed he tried to refuse her as “there’s another one just behind me”. Mental all together.
Was this GoAhead by any chance? They’re performance on the old bus eireann routes the 126/123 have been absolutely shocking lately.
The public transport system is designed for people who don’t need to be anywhere at a specific time; who can be hours late and ‘be patient’.
Ireland isn’t special. Most other countries have it figured out.
I was in Germany recently and their train system was suffering under the strain of the €9 ticket. Luckily there’s and excellent app, called DB navigator which is impressively up to date. How good? On a isolated rural three platformed station (think something like Limerick junction) with no other people, about 5 minutes before a train arrived, I felt a buzzing in my phone. A notification informed me that the platform had changed. I trusted that and made it. ( There was probably an announcement but the loud speakers are fairly chatty and my German isn’t good so I ignored it).
On my way to the airport in Hamburg, the app informed me that the inter city train was stopping one stop before it got to Hamburg HBF, this was before before the train announcement told the rest of the train. It also told me an alternative train. Without that I’d had been lost.
It’s very well localised too, if a bit clunky in text.
Real time apps need to be accurate, or they are pointless.

Between that, and it being 30 minutes between buses… You can be waiting 20-30 minutes in rush hour for a bus in the city centre. What the fuck. Public transport is an absolute shambles in Dublin City. Besides housing, it’s my biggest grievance. How can anyone be expected to use it when it’s so shit?
Ironically enough the public transport network which is supposed to discourage the use of personal vehicles is precisely what inspired me to get my own car and drive absolutely everywhere that I can’t walk to.
the fucking 40 and 13 never show up, i was waiting for my 13 home from work yesterday and it jsut didn’t show up had to wait 30minutes for the next one ontop of the 15 i already had waited. Just a fucking pain. especially on sundays
