Scared Straight are programs that take juveniles that are considered “bad” and send them to adult prisons for a day or a weekend in order to be scared by the prisoners in an attempt to reform them. There’s loads of sexual assault threats against the kids on the programs, but its considered acceptable by a large portion of Americans since the kids are in prison and prisoners “deserve it”.

Absolutely fucking insane. How is this legal? How does any parent think this is acceptable?
If a prison in Germany is “scary”, that prison has failed doing its job. The only thing that is supposed to be “scary” is the loss of freedom itself: you can’t just go wherever you want, you have to stay in prison. But while you are in there, you’re supposed to have a decent life.
